Virgin Media Broadband - XL - Up to 20Mb
Anyone tried it?
Since moving into this house, I've been on the L - Upto 4Mb connection, and its been pretty awful of late!
Finally lost my rag before when the connection speed was down at 0.1Mb/s, so I decided to upgrade online to the top package. (dont tell Suie )
Theres still definately a problem with the cable installation in my house, but the speeds are a bit more usable now...

looks better internet connection at mine is balls! between 5-8pm it will almost definatly go off and not let me back on due to it being busy for people connecting to the net.
My dads work office is across from where the signal or whatever is sent from and his never disconnects yet i live about 2-4 miles away from it and i get kicked off almost every night.! grrrr

Virgin Media are a waste of time in my opinion.
Louise is having same problem at her house, should upto 2mb but nothing ever loads up. She is on the M package, but by the sounds of it they all seem the same.

virging saying "up to" means you'll get 8mb max on a good day in the early morning and that even depends on where you live.
ive never heard of anybody in the UK having anywhere near 20mb speeds.

TO be fair, the connection very very rarely goes off, but sometimnes it gets slow and you end up pulling wires out all over the place trying to fix something you cant
Im happy with the service... but was gutted when they moved the call centre and made yo upay for broadband issues over the phone!
Im currently on half price tariff too, as I complained over a bill. lol
From all of the things Ive heard about sky, BT, etc... I think I'll stay with Virgin.

I've got VM at my uni house and we're on the 4mb package.
'shite' is the word that springs to mind. I dont think I can recall a speed above 200kbps at any time when I've been downloading porn.
AOL (at real home) is no better mind

All broadband providers use the words "up to" to cover their asses
Your lucky its cable you have Simo, had you been on aDSL and upgraded to a better package chances are you could have been left with no connectivity atall! (unless it was just people whoring the line)
I've been with Bulldog for yonks now, had their 2mb service back when that was all broadband providers would give. It was bulldog who kickstarted the higher figures race. They upped us to 4mb to test their new service, after i sent a form back to them about it they upped us onto 8mb within the month to test that out (which unfornatly was a nightmare for several months - all sorted now though )
What website did you try that speedtest with? I'll do one from here and see what i get.

It might provoke extra bodies in my room moaning about tinternet, if i remember in the morning i'll try again while there asleep.
6.2mb out of 8 at 1am i would file under "dissapointing" though, although it might just be the nature of the test to under read it, downloading big files i consistantly get over 800kbps so im happy with it for the time being.
I was considering swapping to Sky for a while but the prospect of all the aggrovating fonecalls to help bud bud supportings puts me off.
