Default Engine speed sensor........

Just had this replaced as the car wouldn't start. Can't find any reference to it in my Haynes manual at the back of the bible! Where is it on the block so I can check they did put a shiny clean new one on? Thanks in anticipation. Edd

It will be the crank sensor. Front of the engine, where the gearbox/engine connect.

The vehicle speed sensor is the one at the back of the gearbox, but i think that only controls the dash speedo (and maybe some ABS functions) - but wouldn't stop the engine from starting.
