Hi everyone,
First of all, apologies if this isn’t the right section to do this — and also apologies if I’m a little late to the game! That said, I thought it would still be nice to finally introduce myself and my Saxo.
I’m the owner of a 1996 Citroën Saxo VTS 16V, which, interestingly enough, here in Portugal was branded as the Citroën Saxo Cup. I’ve owned the car since 2016, and from day one the plan was simple: keep it completely stock and preserve it as faithfully as possible.
When I bought it, the little Saxo had 210,000 km (≈ 130,500 miles). Over the last 10 years, I’ve driven it very little — roughly 10,000 km in total. The car came with a full service history from a Citroën dealership, along with all the original manuals and booklets, which made me even more committed to keeping it original.
Over the years, I’ve focused purely on proper maintenance and preservation, resisting the temptation to modify anything. Everything remains exactly as it left the factory.
This year is a special one, as the Saxo turns 30 years old. Here in Portugal, cars that remain in absolutely original condition can be certified as vehicles of historic interest by a local automotive authority. This certification comes with some great benefits:
• very low insurance (as low as 30 € per year),
• no MOT inspections required,
• and in the event of an accident, insurance companies are obliged to repair the car back to its original factory specification.
The little Saxo officially turns 30 this year, and I’m happy to say that I’ll be certifying it next week. Once that’s done, I’ll try to post some photos here.
To finish, I’d like to thank everyone involved in this forum — especially the admins — for such a well-organized, information-rich, and welcoming community. It’s great to see this level of passion and knowledge still alive around these cars.
Looking forward to being part of the discussion!
Cheers 👋
