Is it a fail if your windscreen washers do not work?

Nope, engine conversion has nothing to do with the MOT.

You are spot on, tyre types do matter, in fact years ago there was a warning posted in an ad on TV saying cross plies and radials do not match not on the same axle cross ply radial = death. Some Mot testers are over zealous in their approach to testing vehicles solely depends on who they are and who they work for, take the well known ones that advertise exhausts tyres etc they will fail your car guaranteed whilst other garages would pass the same car... f..k I still sh.t myself at Mot time ...

The magazine car mechanics donkeys years ago featured a 'Pass your MOT test ' nothing has changed from that day to this no engine fault is taken into consideration and never has been it has to do with law and the requirements of safety i.e. a car without a bumper can pass the Mot it would only fail if there were protruding edges that pedestrians could get caught up or spiked on. I had a mini cooper [the Isigonis one] some years ago done up like a xmas tree bumpers removed and this passed the mot for years n years crap car though crank shaft snapped clean in half ..

Mine failed on being excessively loud today because of just that.

Had straight through from cat to standard backbox.

Didn't fail on anything else or even get an advisory, just the noise. I swear they just want the extra £30 for the retest!!

Try get your car mot'd at a council garage, they dont do repairs so wont try and fail you for something you can make money out of... Also alot more leanient towards small problems.

UPDATE towbars now come into an MOT it has got to be safe and secure if it is attached to a vehicle, you may bot even use it but its still now law to be safe.

Im bought a VTS from a garage 6 weeks ago and took her for the M.O.T today... I aint too chuffed with the results...

ABS warning light does not illumitate

Both CV boots off

Both CV joints excessivly worn

All Pads less than 1.5mm thick

Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide after 2nd fast idle excessive

O/S rear arch excessivly corroded

Parking Brake effieciecy below requirements....

And for the Advisory note...

Front Disks scored

Rear Disks Pitted

Center Exhaust has minor leak

O/S front lower sspension arm has play in pin/bush

Rear radius arms both have play in pin/bush...

So there it is, i think its guna cost me a few bob to get it sorted.

Is there anythin i can do to get the garage to pay half towards it as they told me it was mechanicly sound and well looked after... They say its my problem now, this cant be be right can it?
