Same mani as yours bud, but for the 8v engine. On cold starts I can hear the gasses in the pipework and it gives a blowing type sound - no air escaping though.
They are badly designed manifolds imo - would get a Piper if i had my money again haha.

The motorsport company that did my cams recommened it to me. I've heard good stuff about supersprint. The overlap area being the only bad part of the design I'm aware of. It's a heck of a lot better than a Raceland that's for sure.

nothing wrong with the design but you have to be careful in how you put it together. I know of a lot of people not using any sort of sealant which is guaranteed to leak. Also I think due to the vibration of stiff mounts, gun gum and similar (as it dries hard and is brittle) can crack over time. Personally I would use a high temperature silicon sealer rather than welding.

Fair comment on the welding. The chap who did the work made an excellent job. He lathed the clips off so he could easily weld all the way round. Did a proper job...
I had a search for a high temp silicone sealant a while back, but I couldn't find anything that states it works up to the temps a manifold gets too.

Here's some pics.
The state of the head:
The state of the mani. I sanded out the insides to de-cake it basically:
Here's the welding being showed off:
And here's Finch showing off the finished product:

good stuff toadus, i always use "plumba" or something like that when sealing proper exhausts... as motorsport exhausts usually use that shit sleeve fit and that plumba stuff works wonders...
whats on the cards next buddy, i know your progress has been thick and fast as late as you must be enjoying the car more now?

I lurked on pgti and also was under a completely random username that i can't even remember. Those were the days though, nobody bought cams or got remaps, throttle bodies were a novelty, pug performance had a good rep and boosted saxos & 106s were rare!
Oh how things have changed. As per my reg on here, got my vts early 2004!

Chars Frugal.
Ads, I haven't had a chance to get it fully open yet, but yeah, it feels tighter, like there's more back pressure or something. When I come off throttle, it slows down quicker. make any sense?

The weld job looks superb Toad. Dont know if you remember but the garage I took my manifold down to said that welding that section couldnt be done due to the metal being to thin...
That looks like a great job I have to say!

Obviously they were pansies.
The chap I took it too does stainless steel welding, and did it while I waited. He had to slice off the clips to allow a weld all around the edge. I'm happy with it.

probably because the engine is having to 'push' the gas out a tad harder... depends on the rpm though!
