dodgy internet advice?
i never ever switch the router off, but my mums switched it off 2 nights in a row for some stupid reason. and everytime i switch it back on google dosent work on firefox and nothing works properly apart from sax-p. internet explorer works just like normal. and msn live messenger dosent work?
Ive restarted the comp and router in different orders and still no luuck. last night i switched the router back on at 2am then woke up at 10ish switched the comp on and it was fine?
whats going on? any advice?

i expect turning the router off for that period of time will reset all its settings. Therefore, it might take awhile to configure itself or you may need to enter the routers software to configure it manually.
If its working now, i wouldnt worry about it mate, funny things are routers!

well if IE works, then surely it isnt the router thats the problem?

all other sites will be blocked, go on to your router settings and check the inbuilt firewall and see that it is permitting all sites.

In firefox, go to google and give the "reload Page" button a few double clicks.

Your router might have lost its port forwarding settings, very unlikely but possible.
Try putting 192.168.2.1 in your address bar or 192.168.0.2 or 192.168.0.1
Username & password can be alsorts but most basic routers tell you on the bottom if not, it will be admin and blank password or root or administrator.
Once your on the router check the port settings, see if theres a default profile or if any ports are actually allowed to be opened.

well ive reformatted the comp, so it isnt the computer thats the problem. ive been onto the routers firewall and its fine i changed it to all open allowing anything through, and it still wont work.
my router is connected by usb not wireless. i havnt tried that thing yet ste, got work soon, but will do later on.

yep completely reformatted and exactly the same problem.
I.E works fine but its on things where i have to put my input on and i guess where it encrypts the page, such as my ebay, web messenger, paypal, anything that has security.
google is now working in firefox, but still no hope with anything else
ok as ive reformatted ive got the old skool msn thing and it works, i guess its to do with the ports etc. but i dont know anything else from there on or how to fix etc?

The router wont loose its settings by turning it off! u gota presses the reset button under it to load defaults! i suggest trying what ste said and connect to the router via IP! dont start installing no CD's tho cos thats just pointless. depending on the make of the Router will depend on what IP to use, if you type your router name in google im sure you will find the IP to browse to. user name and password is usiall admin admin or sumthing along them lines.
