Default tachometer

Hi
I have a saxo 1.5d and I want to ask you that;
tachometer is not working, which solutions do you suggest, which parts may be defective
Thanks

The age of 1.5D would be useful, engine code or VIN number.

did it come with a tachometer as standard? If not, then the wiring will not be present.

Also does it have an ECU on top of the battery?

Nope, spent hours trying to make one work on mine. Standard setups all use the flywheel sensor. still making power at 6k so really need to work something out soon lol

I'll end up bolting a tooth ring onto the crank pulley I think. I've no idea how the diesel drives the tacho on the non ecu models

If it's anything like my 306 D turbo (all mechanical, no ecu) it's a hall effect type sensor mounted very close to the flywheel, there's an opening at the bottom of the bell housing (you can see the flywheel teeth) and I believe a small magnetic plate attached to the flywheel which passes the sensor. They quite commonl fail due to oil and dirt exposure over the years. I've had to replace them in the past.
