Default Addig a new hard drive

Hi all i dont know much about computers so take it easy on me. I have a pc with a 180gb ide hard drive and am wanting to put in a 1gb sata hard drive. My question is can i use an ide hard drive at the same time as a sata hard drive, the mother board has 2 sata ports but is there a limit to the size of the hard drive that you can use on an older mother board.
If i can add a sata drive is it just the same as adding an ide drive in the way of formatting it with windows.
Once i have done this i want to move all the stuff from the ide drive to the sata drive, is this easy to do?
Thanks

Yup, can use sata along side ide no problem. The power connectors are the same, you might find that it won't power up if you use it off a chain that is powering things like the graphics card/another hard drive though, depends on the wattage of the PSU. But it's very simple and should show up in the explorer once plugged in. You will need to format it in NTFS format if the drive in already is.

Better off downloading Hirens Boot CD mate and using Ghost to image one drive onto the other once you have got both drives plugged in
