Nah not really, I only use it for the resident shield as it's a handy thing to have running. Make sure you choose custom install and untick the Link Scanner option...I'd also disable scheduled virus scanning when you set it up.

I would recommened avast for a free good anti virus as it has real time scanning which will keep your system protected for a very long time. If you are looking for a basic anti virus sytem which will get you on the internet for a bit then i guess AVG.
If you have some cash then i would recommend Nod32. Stay well away from norton.
