Not sure really, why not one week walk other week ride?

I think walking will be better as your going to work, if your riding you will hardly be going for it just being a slow pedal...

You could jsut walk and when you get in go for a bike ride

I had to do both the other day, in the middle of no where and my chain jams and i couldnt unjam it for around 20 mins so had to walk 3 miles to nearest road to get a lift home!

you use different muscles for different ways on bike and runs..

also there are optimum zones for fat burning usually at a certain percentage of your max HR.

cycling will be more of a power work out on the quads (and if you cycle correctly hamstrings) so you will gradually build up muscle in this area, so you can end up with layers of fat ontop of the muscle. also as with anthing make sure its not just weight you watch as you will increase in weight when you add muscle..

enjoy ut and eat a good diet and this will help.

bike riding is better i would have thought as your muscles are working faster and if there are any hils, it is harder to bike up them than walk....
if you want to improve your cardiovascular endurance go for bike rides....
bike rides up hills will also improve your cardiovascular strength....

i think its between 60 and 80
to work out max usually you would do 220-your age so for me my max would be 203.
from this max you can work out 60 and 80% and then try to work in this area....

the "fat burning zone" is between 60&80% of your MHR. slighlty breathless, sweatying & hort of breath is how you will feel.

cycling is better than you walkin as it elivates your HR more so.

To work out your HR % do, 220 - age, then work out the percentage.
this is the text books answer tho 220 - age is not always your absolute max heart rate.

its just as quick to use teh BPRE scale tho... think of a scale 1 - 10, 10 is you feeeling as tho your heart will pop!! 1 is you at home watching the snooker with a tinny!! LOL you want to feel about 6 - 8 on this scale that is reflective of approx 60 - 80 % of you MHR!

if fat los is required read previous posts for more info. :Y:
