Not messing about are you! Best way to widen the body imo would be something like the saxo kit cars/ s1600. Something like this?

main central hoop should be one solid piece bent to shape
roll it and those welds fail thatll be one big knife....even if the whole thing twists from the torque or in a bump that pipe could cut your throat/head off
