Default Logitech Z-5500 Anyone have one?

Sorry the photo quality is a bit bad:

Anyone own a Logitech Z-5500 system. I've owned my virtually from when Logitech first released it. It's a fantastic system.

Sounds amazing on my XBOX 360 and works well with the Sky too. Something that is amazing though more than anything,
I bought that system back in 2005 (Still can't believe it's been that long) The sound clarity is still as it was when it was new maybe even better.

I bought it from eBuyer for £205 delivered. Now the system is £240 undelivered.
How can it be more expensive 5 years down the line.

Wish I bought more and made some money lol.

Yep! I've had mine for a little over 2 years, cant believe that they've gone up in price either!!! Best £200 I've ever spent!

Cracking system for the money, looaaddss of inputs (I'm running Digi-Coax from Sky HD, Optical from the PS3, direct 6ch in from my PC and my iPod will still go on the line in aswell!) Quality!

The volume and bass, is mightily impressive from something so.... basic really... but the sound quality you get when listening to DTS or THX soundtrack is phenomenal.

Have you done any of the 'easter egg' tricks on yours? And do you know about the 'Volume Boost'?

http://www.eeggs.com/items/50873.html

Reason I bought mine is because T3 or Stuff cant remember which, had it in their top 3 Audio systems for ages, ranking it with £500+ seperate Amp + speaker packages....

I am now a fan of Logitech, and when my mouse and keyboard pakced in, there was only ever gonna be one manufacturer who I'd replace them with...

Top marks Logitech!!

Volume boost was first thing I found out mate.
It got me into trouble with my next door neighbour because apparently I was vibrating his conservatory (and I live in a detatched house lol)

Is an amazing system.

Question

hey guys im thinking of getting this system but want to make sure it has the required inputs for my setup

does the optical input mean my ps3 will connect to it with just a cable?
ive got a normal two phono(?) lead output on my tv, red and black i think it is, will it have support for this? and does it support a normal 3.5mm jack from my pc, i also have 5.1 output from my pc with like 6 outputs, will it support this if i set that up?

whats it like for loudness and being clear, ive noticed i can get them off ebay cheaper than ebuyer so will get them there, and is there anything else thats better for the price range?

cheers

Ok you've asked quite a few questions there so I'll break it down

Yes this system supports Optical, Digital Coaxial and 5.1 Aux.
The cable you will need is an Optical cable, you can buy them pretty cheap, I bought an expensive one when I was buying my Digital Coaxial.

It will not support this.

Yes the speakers can connect as a 5.1 System to a PC with the 6 outputs, you even get the cable with the system.

The simple is No.
I've heard many systems, the only one's I think that come close are the one's I have heard from Panasonic. But for the same stuff you get with the Z-5500 your looking at £350 +.

Mine is very very loud.
I very rarely have mine above half since it is very loud even there.
You can take the speakers into the "Overboost" setting and even there it doesn't distaught right until you get to the top of the level.

The only speakers that can compete for the XBOX 360 are the official XBOX 360. My mate has these and they are pretty good for the job, but don't have the other features to connect to other thing's.

Only issue I've had is my remote control doesn't work anymore.
Apart from that it's the best £205 I've ever spent (£240 now).

It's a good system regardless of the budget.
You will be hard pushed to find a system that offers the performance and clarity of this system.

I'm one of Logitech's biggest haters. I just often find they release too many products that are unreliable over the years I can think of many examples suchs as Webcams, Mice, USB Gaming controllers etc.

Was a big gamble for me to spend this much money on this system but when I bought it it was labled as one of Computer Actives One to Buy.

Since then it's won Computer Active and PC Guide awards.
Not saying you are DB Sax but don't knock this system until you try it.

I don't know what cables come with the PS3 but you don't get a Optical Cable with this.
If you want the best quality cables go for the high spec Belkin one's. I have a cheapo XBOX Optical cable that I got free with a HDMI Cable. I can honestly tell the difference especially on this system.

Cost about £45 for my Optical cable from Dabs. Although my Optical cable is 3 metres long since I overshot the measuring just a bit.

Found the Optical Cable I use.
Seems they only do it in 4 metres now:
http://www.dabs.com/products/belkin-...ptical%20cable

Bloody expensive but worth the money in my opinion. Shop around I'm sure you could get a shorter one for less money, but seriously don't go cheap on an optical cable.

Oh Also MinxyMears something I noticed with your setup.
You have your Sub mounted on some wood. You may know this but this will be reducing the effect your sub will be having on your room.

jesus christ, £65 for one cable lol are there different types of cable, ive noticed its a TOSlink connector, are they all that? i dont want to buy the wrong optical one

and is it like hdmi where all the cables produce the same quality? i presumed optical will be light and wouldnt that be a digital signal? i know cables are important on analogue systems/speakers etc but didnt think optical would be the same too, know how i can differentiate between a good and bad one as i dont want to be spending anywhere near that kind of money for a cable lol

cheers

Well there are plenty of good optical cables out there.
Just look for any that are multi fibre as these are the ones that off the best quality.
