Classy Euro Saxo :)
Hi all..
Heres my saxo... Most of you may or may not have seen it before... It started off with my partner buying it off an old saxperience member who paid to have a load of body work and such like done to it... Sadly its not really practical for her to drive as any speed bump is a no go... and due to rough town centre parking it was bound to be kissed by a key down one side at some point...
So now ive got it... I bought it off her and its currently locked away behind my security gates getting it ready for the show season
As the bodywork is already done, ive started on the interior and starting to fit a subtle but show worthy audio system.. Im doing this all myself, and will also be introducing hand wrapped real carbon fibre (none of this 3m cr*p)... and some alcantara...
Its still being kept euro as such, however the wheels may be up for sale in the near future.. Its a shame, however i cant be bothered putting on and taking off all the time due to weather change... i may be getting some cream banded steels made up for the car...
Anyways... heres the pics where im at so far...

Ive had a delivery of the materials im using in the new bootbuild.. in the way of 2x1 metres of carbon, and the same in alcantara....

The first job was to fit my TOAD ai606... Im an electrician by trade, and my friend an alarm & cctv fitter on larger vehicles, however hes thatchem approved, so bonus!! Thats now in the car working, and along with the much needed perimeter protection
Loads of wires....
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Then came the job of a service & tappets... Bloody nightmare to get the car up in the air to do, however its now sorted with a better sound to the engine... No clangs, rattles & taps lol
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Ive now started on the audio build that was in the car, it sounded bad!! The build was built really well, however it wasnt to any spec, and the box was ported into some fans keeping the amp cool, giving rather a naff noise...
Out came the hammer, crowbar & circular saw...

With a good solid base to start from, i installed two Gel deep cycle batteries... Ive also changed the front battery for a brand new one, giving me a floating voltage of 14V+ when on idle
The cables are fused both ends incase of a short...
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Ive then since replaced the audio in the doorcards for some trusted ones ive used in the past, which are crystal clear... Ive acetoned the brand markings off of the tweeters to give them a blank look, and braced them in the door card a lot better... No more vibrating saxo trims now
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
With that done, ive started to tackle a sub box... Keeping the alpine sub, ive built to spec a ported 10" box which is braced internally, resined in and out with all corners rounded internally and a large flaired port....
At this point the box is a cr*p shape... This has been built just to sound good as when ive finished, the front of the install will be finished with a finishing panel which will hide all of the box and trimmed in either carbon or alcantara...

With all that going on, and my headunit being a JVC dvd playing one... it would be rude not to install a tv
Ive ripped out the normal switch points, and cut out the single din holder...
This was the idea i was going for... However without any buttons and such like on show....
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
After an atack with the glue gun.. i then had a stable base to work from...
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
With that dry, it was time to get the shape together... This was done with stretching some old dust sheet over the area, and glue gunning at the rear... With that solid i then coated it with two coats of resin, leaving to dry between coats...
Due to the material it was solid and i didnt need to cover with any fibre matting...
Then i trimmed off the not needed areas of glasswork, and trial fitted into the car...

With that sorted it was time to skim fill, sand, wet sand and smooth ready to prime & paint.....
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
I have then painted up in UPOL plasti-x bumper paint... To give it an OEM black finish......
Could almost be factory fit haha
I did want to carbon this piece, however its a bit too complex to pull off in one go

Cheers all for the nice comments...
As far as i know, this car was winnys (who had all the work done...)... It was then sold to his brother, and i bought it from him and his dad...
I am very impressed with the work thats been carried out... not 100% happy with the finish of the interior, however this was apparently on the 'to do list' with the previous owner.
The seats are from a mk3.5 golf on custom saxo runners.... And to be honest their super snug and a joy to sit in... even with the 'brick' suspension set up..
Im in two minds wether to try and find a mint set of these seats (due to how nice they are to sit in)... or to get some retro porsche or TT seats... as the runners should only need slightly adapting with a welder...
Im not going to do major interior work as id like to keep it like a saxo inside, rather than a fully blown show car... as this is a daily when im not using the van...
However the install in the boot is another story, as i dont need any space for shopping..

Yea i agree it would be ashame to remove the wheels... However i dont have any place to store the wheels due to living in a new build apartment, so its a bit of an issue...
Im not sure if these are brushed alloy or what they are... everyone i speak to is telling me to get them off asap...
Plus the gold plated bolts need to be replaced as the salt seems to be eating through these....
I have no idea where to get the bolts from... and to replace it looks like im going to have to strip the tyres off etc... hence their turning into a ballache

Nar fed up of crap MPG... ive done loads of engine swaps in the past, recently a 2.1 zetec turbo brown mk2 fiesta & a 2.0 16v fiat seicento powered by a c20xe vauxhall lump...
Just think it would be a shame to wreck this car with a different engine... Plus theres the worry of scratching the bodywork while carrying out a conversion.
The cars too low to go fast, so a bigger engine than the 1.4 is pointless IMO
