Head Unit will only power on for a few seconds
Hi,
Basically I stripped my car out of nearly everything I could to see how much quicker it was.
Went to put all the stuff back today. Put the head unit in and nothing was turning on, so I took it out, had a look around and there was nothing I had done wrong, put the head unit back, but not in all the way and it powered on for a few seconds and then went off, then it was trying to turn back on, but as soon as the screen had any life in it, it faded out straight away.
Tried the reset button, tried putting it in all the way, made sure there were no wires shorting it out.. But still won't come on for more than 5 seconds max.
What the hell could be up with it?
Thanks,
Dan.
Edit, UPDATE

Your best bet is to use a mulitmeter to check what is going on and that there is deff a 12volt constant feed to the headunit

Surely there must be a feed if it comes on at all?

Yeh but if uve got 12v on battery and accesory and yet the headunit goes off then the fault is with your headunit, If there is not 12v then uve got a problem with your wireing.......U wana find out where the fault is, this will be the easyest way to do that..........You could use an old speaker instead of a mulitmeter

Would it have anything to do with the amp and sub I have plugged in? Cause when it does work for the 5 seconds, the sub isn't working either, even though I had wired it all up correctly, which it obv isn't..

It might not be long enough for ur remote lead to go live and switch on ur amp, i would disconest the phono leads and remote turn on to eliminate them. I would check that the wires are all working first

When I get the time, I'll disconnect all the wires in the amp, make sure they don't short out and see what happens
Will update when I can (work now =( )
Thanks guys! Legends

I took the remote lead out, fiddled about with the wiring behind the head unit put it back in, it works.
Turned the volume up a bit, and it cut out, going back to trying to turn on, but as soon as the screen had any life in it, it faded out straight away.
All I have plugged into the headunit is the main bulk of wires that slot in, not the Radio Aerial. not the red and white sub leads, not the blue remote lead and not the Alpine AUX in Cable. The fuse isn't on the bit by the battery that powers the amp, and the speaker wire isn't in the sub. The Radio fuse is not broken.
What the hell could be up with it?!

If one on the speakers in the door is shorting that could cause a problem (would explain it cutting out when u turned the volume up)............The headunit could be going into protection mode, see if u can just plug the power in, and not the standerd speaker wires aswell

That website is blocked for some reason at work, so will take a look when I get home.
Not sure what you mean though, I only have one connection block thats plugs in from behind the dash to my Headunit?
Cheers mate.

It looks like one black block, tho it should actually split in two

Just had a quick look, the connection block doesn't split into two, its just one plastic case with lots of wires going into it one side, and the other has metal pins coming out of it..
If I take the drivers speaker out, turn the volume up and see if that works, and do the same with the passenger side, would that be enough to elimate that possible problem?

Could be, unless the fault is with the speaker wire at some other point, a multimeter would of made this so simple to sort, really cheap on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/new-digital-el...3%3A1|294%3A50

Just wanna get this sorted soon as, without having to wait for a multimeter to arrive. I just don't understand how something can just stop working like this, so annoying. The only speakers I took out and put back in were the original Citroen ones, so they plug and play anyway..
