I'm in the forces, and to be honest with you mate, you need to pull your finger out. You think swallowing sick isn't pleasent? You need to get used to it pal. Throughout training, and on the job - you'll be pushed to your limit, and beyond all the time.
Throwing up IS part of this. Spit it, swallow it - I don't care, just keep going. Trust me, when you're hungover after a Thurs night out with the lads and you've got a 10mile run on friday morning it's GOING to happen!
Chin the treadmill off, they're terrible - real lazy man's way. I don't know why, but they DO NOT help you CV wise, atleast nowhere near as running outside does. When you get in, you're not going to be doing any running on a treadmill, it'll all be grass/tarmac/dirt running - which treadmills don't help you with. Plus treadmills are damn boring! Same scenery, sweatbox of a gym. Get outside, fresh air - interesting stuff to see.
Get out there, run every other day to start with, and build it up to 5 times a week.
DON'T CRUISE! You NEED to push yourself all the time on the run, keep your goal in mind (joining the marines) and it'll help motivate you. Get some good music on your ipod, something that motivates you. Before you go for a run, get your mind racing on something that REALLY pisses you off. I have an "arch-enemy" back home that makes my blood boil if I even picture him - so I use this to make me run quicker and keep thinking about him throughout my run! I find listening to angry/heavy metal music also helps.
Make sure you're running atleast 3miles, in a decent time. A comfortable 7-min mile is what you're aiming at, with the ability to make it quicker.
Once you've got 3 miles under your belt, start increasing the distance.
Make a record of the distance you did, and how long it took you. It really helps to motivate you when you see it lower!
That's all that comes to mind mate, get out on the road - find someone else that's fit and can be a running partner (make sure they're commited and wont come up with excuses why they can't make it!)
I take my dog running, as shes great company. It keeps my mind off the pain, and she makes me laugh as I run. I don't need to take a lead out with me anymore, as she will stay at my ankles whilst I run near roads.
PM me if you need any help fella.
