Thanks Buddy ^.
Right, its been a while. Gone for a VTS Gearbox off Mandyslover, good to see the Ikeston lot again, I will probably be back again in a few weeks for more parts though
Picked up some new VTS Alloys off Tufty, fair play to the guy, he knocked off a bit for 1 dodgy tyre, needs replacing as I got told it would not go through the MOT, but at least he was honest about it Sorry about not staying a little longer to have a chat, was in a rush to get back, + hangover was killing me lol
Back to the progress, New Clutch, Gearbox and Driveshafts so far.. All being fitted as I speak, If its all apart I might as well get it all done at the end of the day.
I will update with more pictures when its back on the deck tomorrow

Wheel bearing also crumbled, this is just getting worse! If only I took pictures when I have just seen it, looks like this car has had a hard previous life. Tom who owned it before you mate? Boy racers or been driven sensibly?
EDIT: Since I went down there at 5, the car got a new wheel bearing, and its still got alot of play, the hub is fucked. After a new strut leg by the looks of things, bad times.

Trouble is the car is what, 13/14 years old. They are going to be needing to be changed some time throughout its life. Unluckily for you you've got the short straw!
Chin up. The more you replace, the less can go wrong!!
Hopefully.

Its back on the road, passed its MOT with no advisories, £900+ later.
Fixed everything on this car now, even the bits that didn't need to be fixed have been done.
Will get pictures of the progress its made in the past month tomorrow.
Also, if anyone has a set of Standard Camshafts please could they let me know the numbers that are on the cam's. I have two engines, both GTI's, both claimed to have been Cammed. They have different Camshafts but I cannot find the standard camshaft markings on the internet, any help would be appreciated Thanks

Never thought I'd see this day on a car with low milage. 82k on the clock, and its gone. Start on a bright note though. Car passed its MOT. Had a Raceland 4-2-1 Manifold fitted, Kam Racing centre pipe, New Strut with wheel bearing, New Gearbox, New Driveshafts and a few other little bits. Mani definitely tidy's up the bay;
Old Mani was blowing, a 4 inch crack had developed under the weld;
Thats all the good news, now the bad. The car has been struggling since Sunday night, first sign was flower like firework sparks flying from the exhaust, random. But its a new exhaust so I suppose it was just clearing itself out. Battery light turned on but very dim, parked up at BP 20 yards further down the road. Left there and come home, Oil Light turned on as I was entering my driveway. Car did not move till I put more in. A Tapping sound started  Today it died on my way home from work, rolled it into my driveway. Here is the end result;
A DEAD GTI
After spending nearly £1k on it this month alone, im not weather to repair and return it to the road, or split it and save money for a diesel for a new job that has been in the pipework for months. Gutted to say the least.

Its coming off the road for a few months definitely, what happens after that is up to my finances at the time.

I think this has gone too far already - it's clear when you bought it you were sold a shit car on its last legs.
If you have the time / money, and really wanted to save it I'd do a full rebuild down to the shell. Put the engine in the bin and find another.
Like you say, suspension and chassis wise you've got a good rolling shell there now.

I'd hate to admit it, but yeah it looks like thats what has happened. Made me look like a mug.
I won't be able to afford a full rebuild of the car, New engine, possibly save up for a strong well built engine in the time I have got. Strip the interior and sell my lovely GTI Leathers. Im that fucked for money that its definitely not coming back on the road till Feb earliest. Need a miracle.

Been advertising for a JP4 engine, but none have come my way so far. Its not just the engine thats pissed me off, bought it, then rear beam, then coilpacks x3!, Exhaust, Clutch etc.. Where does it stop? I have replaced them all, I can't keep putting money into something to waste it.
Too many short cuts have been taken in this cars life, and im the mug who had the car so long to fix them.
I mean just ask Lea about my rear beam, he noticed it for me, probably saved my life by doing that, when the new beam went on I was told the old ARB had been resting on my tyre for "Quite a long while". Dangerous much? /Rant. lol

Another vote to get rid from me mate - sell it "as-is", someone will want it and swap the engines etc.
Shame - but its definately a nail!
