Bit unfair to say really Dom. When the car was sold to you, it was all working and you couldn't say a bad thing about it.

Honestly, I didn't have a clue about ANY of the problems that have happened in your ownership. If I did, I wouldn't of sold it in that state.

Think is just bad luck that everything has gone wrong since you bought it.

If its just the engine, you can easily buy another one and swap them over

Good luck with the car and i hope you get it sorted

What else am I suppose to think? Its a complete pile of turd as it is, I didn't say a bad thing about it because I wanted it badly after seeing the pictures.

Just one question, why was the rust in the engine bay spray painted over may I ask?

Just to clear things up, im not having a go at you here Tom, im just upset and angry at the amount of stuff gone wrong with this car in such a short time. I have noticed many short cuts been taken on this car, even 1/4 of the engine wiring loom is missing, its not your fault but its hardly unnoticeable. But looking at your pictures from when you got the car, to when I got the car, a fair amount of shortcuts have been taken in the time.

Yep thats where this all started. Im having the insurance taken off it tonight, so its most likely break, but if I get a bit of luck with money, then I will replace it.

Keep your eyes open on 106oc for a good engine for me mate

Shame Dom car looks tidy, look I don't know if it will help you or not but I have a JP4 bottom end you can have for free if you can get someone to pick it up for you may help with rebuild may not?

either way good luck if the engine is goosed its not expensive for a JP4 these days

Ah I was having a look at the full JP4 Engine you had for sale earlier last week, not to worry mate, somebody on 106oc offers a JP4 engine fitting service etc. Im going to see if I can get a reply from him as it seems pretty cheap.

Thank you for the offer anyway, shows some good people on Saxp

well I still have the whole engine not split it yet just no covers as said £100 as per add. Just rough costings for you to think about :

Engine £100 you then swap the cambelt setup over with covers (cost of cambelt kit )£70, service items oil, oil filter, plugs etc £30, swap the sump over (get some loctite sealant from halford about £20) and some box oil.

As you know need to drill the head for the inlet but there is another way to do it without drilling the head, I would say all in if you got a few mates that can help out swapping the engine n stuff then £300 tops but thats assuming the engine has lunched itself either way its here if wanted mate give me a shout as it ain't going anywere

I feel for you mate...but at the end of the day these things do happen! New car or old car...

It kind of gets to the point where you put so much money into it you have to finish it off? so decide wether you have got to that point to be honest mate.

but spraying over rust etc... that sounds like a load of bullshit.

I will keep an eye out for an engine matey... does it matter wether its 16v? or 8v?

If you need any help... just drop me a pm.

Jason

I will give you a shout on payday, btw, without needing to drill the head, how do you swap the inlet? I read in that guide that I would have to..

Thanks buddy, I have hardly even started, im months away from finishing it off. I was so close to having the money saved up for a Turbo from Datashift/Predator guys before the first things went wrong, now most of that budget is gone.

The spray on the rust, Tom PM'd me, but didn't confirm or deny the spraying when brought up

Looking for the JP4 tbh, Sophia_Bush seems to have a good deal so I would be very interested in that. I have a spare engine for a GTI outside my house, but I have taken so much off that I really cannot remember what needs putting back on! Ideally I would need a 1997 GTI wiring loom first before any plans go ahead, my current one is.. lets just say "Home made".

Thanks for offering help, may need some when putting a engine either in, or together, seeing as you know your stuff when it comes to them, your advice would be great! How is your car coming along now?

that really sucks mate!!
i know exactly how you feel!! my gti is somewhat similar...
something goes wrong and you pay to fix it...
then something else..
it never stops!!
I hope you come by some cheap parts/engine and get it sorted asap..
i hate being paranoid whilst driving ..

not necessary mate it all depends how you want to go about it I will get pics sorted for you so you know engine loom I will be able to help on aswell Dom as I will be doing engine conversion on mine to something different only problem is the 2 multplugs on the inner wing won't be there but rest of loom is sound so could use it to make yours mint/good again.

All you need to swap over is the sump itself which I guess you have and the tensioner setup for the cambelt but in your case will be case of robbing a few bolts off it since a new cambelt kit will go on, anyway can rob bits off your current engine if needed. I would take time plan everything out and see if monies allow it

Fair enough dude. such a shame, i had my set backs as well to be fair! Biggest one of mine wash crashing my first car... put me back about 4k in debt... Almost out of that now.

No worries at all dude, its not as hard as people make out. just take a bit of time and knowing.

If your going to keep it... My best advice would be to decide what you want.. and then month by month pick things off! If it has to be your daily drive then a light option might want to be considered.... just a 16v conversion...or a cammed lump, even then its still a serious bit of kit.

These things do take time. I started off as a right beginner, knew nothing about nothing.. Now i can question other people myself because i have been there and done it.

But yeah, sit down, opon up a word doc, write down what you need/want, price it up and then tick it up just dont rush it!

Have a look at my thread mate! car is almost back together now! Hopefully should start up and be rolling by the weekend

This is probably the best advice I have got, I have rushed into things too much I guess and ploughed money into areas not needed.

Congrats on the car btw, well pleased for you, only 3 weeks ago it was a empty shell, great work

Yeah, well, thats the way i have done mate, and to be honest...the bit i have missed out are little £3 clips.. and some parts you can only get from Citroen...

Thanks though mate, alot of cuts, swear words, anger and some smiles have gone into it! Its still not finished yet! So touch wood all goes to plan over the weekend. Im hoping i will have a start up video!
