sound quality always comes from the front of the car. that isnt an opinion
people get confused and think they like 6x9s, the reason for this is theyre running a very bad set up in the front of the car, and then use 6x9s as an excuse to enhance quality
the rule is, Comps up front & a sub in the rear
for 3 reasons:
- subs are too big to fit up front,
- low freqs (below 200hz) travel differently to high freqs and can therfore be allowed to be positioned behind the driver
- having a sub is often a "mono" set up, as opposed to stereo, combine this with the way the freqs travel, and it's be hard to stage a sub up front properly
6x9s in the back drag the sound staging to the rear. this is where you do NOT want it.
in a pro music studio, sound staging is simple, 2 monitors (speakers) in front of you, 1 to the left and one to the right, both aiming at you to enclose your head (ears) in the field of sound. this can NOT be achieved with speakers in the rear of a cabin
dont get me wrong, it's nice to have a little fill in the rear (in the form of a small, low powerd set of speakers) just to add definition to the music, but people often used 6x9s to over power the front comps
other reasons include:
- subs & 6x9s cant produce good clean notes in the same enclosure
- even the most expensive 6x9s are still a coaxial form of speaker, and therefore will never be as good as components
- the shape of them doesnt allow them to produce good quality notes
- they not in any enclosure, and therfore sound "flappy"
coonper did a good video test between some vibe 6x9s and some fusion 3 way comps, the quality from the comps is ridiculously better
