Sounds like the first possibility is the gear linkage, I've had the linkage pop off in the past, which left me with only 3rd and 4th because the left/right linkage popped off. You could get just about enough room to maybe get in by using a kerb if you don't have ramps or an axle stand to safely lift the vehicle. I think when I had the issue I was away from tools so I used the car jack and put the spare wheel plus one off the car under the car, next to the jack, so I didn't die if the jack failed. If you have a friend get them to wiggle the gear stick whilst you can see underneath, and you should see where part of the linkage has popped off. They are ball and socket joints.

Sound i will give that a try. I took the gear stick off and its just rusted a lot at the ball point(i think it called that). Been trying to jack the car up but ive never used or seen one of these jacks. Wieder olympian power rower. Any idea. Shoild i order a new part?

I replaced my "gear linkage" on my car after mine kept popping off. Do not put yourself under your car if you don't know what you're doing and do not just rely on a jack. The offending item should be the linkages attaching the bottom of the gear stick to the gear box. They aren't accessible from inside the car as they're tucked up underneath the centre of the car.

There are 3 linkages

one of the 2 smaller linkages has popped off

OR the roll pin that holds the selector arm onto the gearbox has broken or is worn.

If you don't know what you're doing, this is an easy and cheap fix at a garage.
