if i remember rightly on the old xbox's you need an xbox remote 2 play dvd's, as for the 360 though im not sure if this still applies.

i have the dvd remote mate, this is the only dvd player in the house so have got it setup for watching dvd's. its not a problem with the xbox its something to do with the writing of the disc i think

Now mate how did you rip the dvd movie and what program did you burn it with by the sounds of things it has failed the dvd compliance test before burning and needs to be two folders for the player to be able to read it, first been a audio ts file and second and video ts file all your vobs and bup files should be inside the video_ts folder hope this makes sense

yes thats correct mate select burn dvd video then drag them across into the video ts folder then click burn and this should work, but if nero says something about the files not passing the dvd compliance test then there maybe some files missing from the dvd and the dvd player wont reconise the command to play the file and just come up with error

As leckie said it is possibly a media issue ie the xbox doesnt like the disks your using, is the disk a minus r or plus r there could be a few factors to why it is not working but definately worth trying a different type of disk
