couple more updates
not all that exciting again... just keeping it up to date
got 2 new toyo proxes on the front so plenty of grip in the corners
gave my engine bay a bit of a clean and got an ecu cover:
before pic:
how it is now:
since then i've got a fresh oil breather pipe so will relocate the breather filter tomorrow. lightly sanded the yellow paint down on the oil filler cap too, so it's just solid black now. barely noticeable i suppose but the little things all come together
also since that pic i've polished the alloy induction pipe with some autosol
got my mot tomorrow then can crack on getting it lowered while my mate's off uni for easter. can't wait
cheers, chris

finally got round to fitting my jbl components today
wanted everything to be kept behind the doorcards, to save running wires between the car and the door. keeps things tidy then. plus it's easier that way lol
after trial fitting a few locations for the crossovers without much luck, i decided to cut away some of the doorcard foam and slot them in there. nice snug fit aswell
fitted the tweeters without drilling too, as i'd rather not start putting holes in my doorcards. so just used the mirror cover to hold the wires firmly in place. solid and tidy enough for now anyway. will probably relocate them at some point though
cheers, chris

tbh mate its not exactly expensive to get a door card off ebay nowadays, you really need to relocate those tweeters, once the window is open a jar rain can get on it.
If some one walks past they will notice them straight away, know they aint standard and will prob take a look in your boot too with the help of a friendly crow bar or something.
And the whole point of a speaker is to point towards yourself, not up in the air, lol.
Nice location for the crossover though.

you could have got t1-rs off mytyres for near enough the same price as the cf1s if you got them in 195 wide. good to see you've got the engine breather plumbed in better - was a wee bit messy before.
edit - sub wiring looks a bit odd, how have you connected it to the battery?

no - the rim is in inches. VTR rims are 5.5J i'm sure which means there are no problems fitting 195s.
there's a section here that will explain it better than i ever could.

that's true about the t1rs but was only swapping 2 tyres and wanted to keep same size all round. cf1s seem really good anyway. not shown any sign of losing grip up to now!
still not happy with the breather filter. might have to chop the cam cover to o/e airbox pipe and fix it on the end using some rubber hose and clips, as the neck of the filter is the same diameter as the pipe... or just buy a new filter with a larger neck to fit over the pipe, which could make things a bit tidier. not sure exactly what i'm gonna do yet
sub wiring was left in by the previous owner. amp lead goes from the battery, down behind the front nearside wing into the car, under the carpet and down the left hand side of the car to the boot. it used to go through that rainwater drainage hole below the windscreen but i've since rerouted it away from that. tidy job to be honest - only sign of it is under the bonnet and in the boot so i'm happy

just in the middle of doing it now. nightmare tbh! (long story)
got both torsion bars out easy enough. notoriously hard part done etc. rear height set. literally just a case of putting everything back together, but in doing so a bolt snapped in the end of one of the torsion bars... nice one!
drilled a central hole, got an extractor in nice and tight, then the extractor snapped. was too solid for me to drill out and was losing the will to live by this point so took it to a precision engineer who managed to drill it out without damaging the thread. annoying thing is, if i hadn't caused myself all this unnecessary extra work i'd have lowered the back end for free! but oh well it's still worked out cheaper than garage labour plus can easily adjust the rear height myself now if needs be
so i've been busy again and the back is now done... but it's too low! lol
so will be raising it up a bit this weekend and fitting my eibach 50mm springs. should be all finished by monday i'm hoping, ready for tracking to be done next week! ever the optomist lol
cheers, chris

thanks for the comments! yeah will need to go up about 10-15mm at least i'd say, as the springs give about 50mm drop on a vts so should be more like 45mm on a vtr. will mean an improvement in comfort anyway. back end is a bit harsh at the min! rear view mirror looks down at the ground and it feels like the car's taking off lol plus it looks silly. can't wait til everythings about level!
torsion bar wasn't too bad looking back. just need 2 of you with the right tools and plenty of time/patience. tricky at first until you pick up the techniques - removing the torsion bar washers, reinsterting the bars correctly etc. but one you've had them in and back out a few times it's easy. just time consuming really
some of the bolts are tricky to access so got to be careful you don't round them off... mine weren't overly tight or seized though. same with the torsion bars. tried knocking them out with a hammer but no luck. was struggling to source a slide hammer aswell so ended up drawing them out slowly but firmly with a bolt and stacked washers followed by a bolt and socket. hard to explain but worked really well! although as i say, think mine was relatively unseized
then just trial and error getting the height even at both sides. they're currently less than a millimetre out. just a shame i've got to take it all apart again! will make sure they're spot on again this time though. got the whole weekend off to mess about with it anyway so let's hope it's a productive one!
cheers, chris
