So today actually happened , it's on a low boost map !

Car made 200 bhp and 200 nm at 8 psi of boost with another 2500 rpm to go .

Hit a few problems which we could sort out ,

Ignition timing was out 10 degrees
Gearbox I bought off blacky stopped going into 1st gear when running?
Slight oil leak from the cam ladder
Hit a bit of boost spike for some reason, (to do with wastegate)

Overall Jonathan is happy with how the car works and has said 'it will make good power )

Need to get it ran in now then screw it upto 1.5 bar of boost and see what the figures say .

Haven't driven the car yet , maybe today if I sort whatever is up with the gearbox . Definitely looked quick on the rolling road.

I've had some fail right in the middle of the core too John.

I do know what you mean about the fittings because one on my own car failed like that, but my teenage son had fitted it and I hadn't told him to use two spanners so I put the new leakage down to that. However, when I removed it to replace it the fitting came completely off. You could then very, very clearly see where the weld had taken in just a few spots and the paint was the only thing plugging the gaps. I should have taken pictures really.

That failure, plus three other new Mocal coolers failing on customers cars on the dyno, was enough for me to never use one ever again and warn every customer who has one. I'm certain they are just Chinese shit with a Mocal sticker on. Think Automotive need to do exactly that, THINK what shit products are going to do for their business long term. Short-term big profits are all well and good, but they don't tend to last.

Not a right lot to update on the car , just been finishing little jobs off ,

Got a new harness for my plx wideband and a new lsu 4.9 sensor , it now all works as it should.

Fuel pump is wired up properly to prime with the ignition instead of on a switch

Got a magnaflow sorts cat to get it through the mot

Changed the sportline springs for kamracing 160lb grams springs, these gave me more clearance for the chunky toyo r888's I'm running.

Can't check what my afr is sat at yet as it's currently fouled 3 plugs again ? It must be because I'm starting the car and just having it on tickover for too long and causing a carbon build up on the plugs . Hopefully when it on the road it should not eat through them as much . I hope anyways

Not a clue ! Probably because the plugs aren't getting hot enough to clean themselves.

Got 8 new ngk bcr8es coming so will leave it alone until it's insured and taxed which should be next weekend. Then give it a good run out and have a look at the plugs afterwards. May have to go up a heat range but I would have thought it would be okay on the 8's

Yeah have been keeping going with the car , really want it on the road but not wanting to bodge anything to save time . Need insurance confirmed first haha

my guess is ecu is so far off correct settings that it is far too rich --or battery is near flat which will alter fuelling settings on start up -if only running sensible ,then std plugs will be fine till you have it mapped on a dyno
If w/b is working is it running at lambda 1 on idle? or around 14 -1afr --it should be and will need to be to pass an MOT

Thanks for the replies, gearbox is now spot on thanks Andrew.

The car has been mapped on the dyno and set to a low boost for now , until the car is ran in then I'll take it back for a higher boost map .

Still waiting on plugs unfortunately so can't see what the afr reads on tickover . May go the halfrauds this evening and get some standard saxo plugs instead of the cooler running ones

Not much of an update, but have got the car on the road this weekend just gone. Have clocked up 150 miles already and hasn't missed a single beat so far.

I am going to change the exhaust and have it coming out the back instead of being side exit . It's fun for 20 miles or so then it starts giving me a headache.

All in all I'm very pleased with how the car drives and goes round corners .

The first victim was a mk7 fiesta st thinking it was just a saxo vts whilst going up hartside in Cumbria. He was surprised when he asked to look under the bonnet when I got to the top haha .

Awesome news dude, I own both a turboed VTS and a MP215 Fiesta ST180 and can confirm the saxos weight difference makes it more enjoyable

Slight update , so it WAS running great for the 364 miles it lasted .

Coming onto a slip road I decided it would be fun to let it have the beans, all was well until I got in boost in 3rd then a large bang followed by a really bad rattle I knew something had broke .

Managed to coast into a lay by and by time I got out ( major effort with the seats and cage ) it had dumped all its gearbox oil out . A friend kindly trailered it home and I whipped the box out the next day .

The cause : sheared half the teeth from the crown wheel and it was lucky the diff was still in the box as it had smashed all the housing around the diff .

All in all it's a bag of shxte !

But still lucky enough to get the be4 box conversion haha .

Getting fairly well on with the be4 conversion, only downside of doing it is I need a new diff .

GMC do a gearbox strengthening spline kit which makes it larger so it shouldn't strip the teeth on MA and BE or so I'm told.

IIRC at 200bhp and 147ftlb its strange as the torque is relatively low compared to some (unless its now running more which I have missed)?

BE is the way to go its just a shame it costs so much unless you can fab a lot of it yourself.

I'll have a look at that tonight, so far it's cost me

Be4r gearbox from the scrapyard £50
1.8l 306 passenger shaft £20 second hand off eBay
Picasso drivers shaft with bearing carrier £30 again off eBay
Cable clutch fork £16
Clutch cable £15
Be hubs for the front ( machined on our own lathe) £10

Will also be shortening the drivers shaft myself as I'm a welder and fabricator. And have a lathe big enough to fit the shaft in .

Car had 200 nm of torque, which isn't a lot as you said. Hopefully the be4 holds up to a bit more
