That's why I was asking. My PC runs around 40c on idle. Not sure how much under stress as I haven't worked it hard in a while, but no way do I need water Cooling. Air cooling can do a hell of a lot.

True.. True.
Well as it happens the site i mentioned in my initial post wasnt the one i was looking at. The site i should of said was actually " google search " COMPUTERPLANET....Site is fantastic and tells you about each individual part and what extra it will cost you. Its more informative than the other ones i mentioned and they have some fantastic looking cases
I rekon my spec pc that im after with other bits n bobs like mouse and keybaord etc. May cost me 5 - 700 (22" HD monitor included)
Now im going to go on pc world just to see what they give you for a similar price.

What I would recommend is this, buy a ready made PC like so;
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/186618
Then add this graphics card (or something medium-high end.. Haven't been keeping up with new shit, so do some research, but for arguments sake);
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/191864
Building a PC isn't difficult..But this way saves you the 'hassle' (although building it can be part of the enjoyment). Slotting a graphics card in takes less that 5 minutes and you've got a top spec PC that can handle anything you throw at it. I'd definitely do it this way if I do it again.
£534 for something you won't max out isn't bad tbh, and it's not like you could get it much cheaper buying the components individually either.. You can, but slightly, i'd guess you'd save around £50, so it's hassle:reward. Obviously you don't get to hand pick your components..but it doesn't really matter, quad core, 4gb ram, 1tb hard drive and a graphics card like that and you're sorted. You don't get a fancy case either, but it's sleek enough, and it functions, it will just work.. Which is what you want.

How intensively do you edit audio?

Get an intel i5, the i3's are only dual core whereas the i5's are quad core.
Make sure you get 6GB DDR3 TRIPLE channel memory if your going to be hammering your PC running lots of intense apps, and a proper sound card. Onboard sound is shite and with a proper sound card, it does all the audio processing for you instead of your CPU.
You won't need a shit hot graphics card either if you're not bothered about visuals so you could pick one up very cheap.
If you're on a budget then go for dual channel DDR3 instead of triple channel as the price difference of the motherboards is big.

So you can get an i5 and run either dual channel or tri channel memory, depending on your motherboard? i thought you werre restricted to dual channel!

What you wanna do is go with the 4gigs of RAM, not too expensive and comes in handy.
Then you're gunna wanna go for an LGA775 port motherboard, they're older so they dont do all this i7 crap but you dont need that. The Q4400 is a great intel quad core processer, can be overclocked easily to around 4.2GHz i think. One of those are slightly hard to find as they arent in production anymore, but are only around £100. A 1Tb hard drive is around... £60? and that'll last you donkeys.
As for a video card, a nVidia 9600GT does the job excellently and comes in at around £70 new.
Id recommend in investing in an HD sound card too if you're into your music.
Like someone said above, overclockers is a great website.
And Windows 7 is easily downloaded and cracked, dont need to use £100+ on that.
Just my 2bob.

well, Ive seen reviews of computerplanet.co.uk - Most people say Cowboys.
Dinopc.com - meant to be good
Pcspecialist.co.uk - meant to be good
and some of your suggestions like overclockers are said to be good too.
I already have usb monitor speakers peeps, which actually have a usb audio soundcard inside which reason and cubase respond well too with asio drivers...
As for graphics im not a gamer so, im not too fussed, Id be happy with a standard one ( nothing too major) as logn as it provides me with a nice image.
One thing i do need it multiple USB ports, ( to support my midi keyboard, monitors and future mixing/mastering desk... So i would say i will be using this computer intensley focussed on audio... Thanks for your suggestions peeps. Also i may well look into the i5 instead of the i3.... ive heard the i5 has turbo boost function aswell which the i3's dont. I will also look into that intel quad core you mentioned " ReCoNoR " Cheers.
Ill check out overclockers site too.

I used Overclockers a couple of years ago.
Custom build:
Intel Core 2 Quad 2.5GHz + heatsink (OC'd to 3.0GHz)
Nvidia 9800GTX
Seagate 500GB HDD
abit IP35 PRO XE Motherboard
4 GB Corsair DDR2 RAM
Antec 900 Gaming Case
Cost me about £800 altogether and the only things I've had to do over the years are replace the Power supply and upgrade the HDD to 1TB. Would never buy another pre-built system again
