Default Drive Shafts - Fed up of them!

Had my VTR 2 weeks, already the drivers side one is broken.

My 1.1 had 2 sets of drive shafts, yes, 2. I didn't thrash the 1.1.

Now my VTR's drivers side drive shaft has sprayed greace everywhere. The gaiter seems fine but looks like the hose clip that holds the gaiter in place isn't tight enough/ come lose and grece is splashed all on the underside of my car!

Easy fix? or get a replacement? Take the gaiter off and pack it with greace? Its been clicking when accelerating and driving at 30mph seems really bad. Might had done damage to the bearings? There about £60 a time though .

Anyone else had this?

Sounds like you will need a new one, if it was just the gaitor that was the problem you could buy a new gaitor and fit that and repack it with grease, but still not the best option due to the chance of contamination etc

Probs just been unlucky tbh just have to get a new one in there!

You can get away with it if you notice it quick enough, just pack it with CV grease and fit the boot with a jubilee clip. Judging by what you've said I think yours is beyond repair as it sounds the joint has had it. Cant you find a good second hand one?

The gaiter is fine, like i say, the hose clip has come loose i think.

I'll see what father says (he works on cars). Might buy a new one for £60. While the d/s is out i'll put a new clutch into and my new grove and vented breaks!

Maybe worth just getting grease , pack it, tighten it up see how it goes before forking out some monies and see how it goes

Yeah, i'd go for getting a new boot and fitting it, but also be wary that in the near future you may need a new one. although cheapo £60 wont last long anyway. Best bet find a low mileage one in a scrappy and get the shaft from that one.

Good thing is they are easy to change.

How low is your car? Saxo's lowered any more than about 40-50mm suffer with driveshaft problems all the time, due to the shaft spending its life sitting at the wrong angle it was designed to.
