Default 16v heat exchanger advice / turbo project

I'll cut right to the chase,,

I've recently upgraded to a bigger turbo which I have fabricated a new turbo downpipe for as the new turbo has a different turbine outlet.

I've fabricated the downpipe in such a way that allows me to use a standard size oil filter now.

So my question is,, now that I have space is it worth me reinstating the oem heat exchanger to help deal with oil temps? As sometimes in traffic my oil temps tend to creep up to around 110-120 degrees, I've even seen the oil pressure warning light flicker on idle once, due to hot oil I believe?

I have a 19 row mocal oil cooler that sits behind my intercooler, and is working fine when I'm driving 👍

The only problem with reinstating the heat exchanger is the pipes sit very close to the manifold, well,,, close as in resting on it, excuse the state of everything, needs a clean but you get the drift.

Thoughts?
Cheers.

make sump larger ? --easy to make it hold another litre=of oil ==that will stop your oiltemp climbing wile idling
but really your oengine oil cooler wants moving as well .
fitting heat exchanger --it doing that then fit a custom one in the oil ine that goes to oil cooler -

Trouble is with moving the oil cooler is I actually have no where else to put it, if I place it on top of the intercooler it's not going to get good flow without drilling holes in the bumper, also comprises flow through the radiator.

I was planning on installing the standard heat exchanger in the original position, and then the mocal oil sandwich plate on top of that, would this not work in the way I intend it to then as you are suggesting a custom one?

So ,, Block - heat exchanger - sandwich plate - oil filter

This is the position of the oil cooler at the moment..

ID:	17833dont know your bumper config but 106 mounting works well here as we have bumper vents. Option for you?

I never saw those sort of temps despite sitting in traffic (in fact, never saw 120 degrees even on track/nurburgring).

That's interesting about the oil temps on track,, bearing in mind the gauge I have is only a very cheap one from eBay £19 I think it was, and I'm taking the reading from the port in the side of the head, so maybe it's picking up additional heat from somewhere?

where you have the oil coler at present it will get fryed by heat from turbo unit anyway --bad postion
--as ross picture shows mount at side of intercooler --it can be done
i run an intercoooler twice your size +oil cooler for s/charger and and also an egine oil cooler --al fitted behind std bumper

Ok thanks for the advice, I'll have a dig around at what I options I have for the wheel arch mounting, I think it's going to be tricky as I have a 19 row oil cooler and it's fairly large, I will also need to put some kinda of vent in my bumper as I have my fogs smoothed.

I can feel more fabricating coming on!

Drop to a 13 row cooler. Honestly I never had ANY worries with temps and that ^ was my 400hp+ setup.

just moe your 19 to infront of intercooler and try that first --getting it away from turbo will help
how long can you hold your hand down between the oil cooler and turbo before it burns????
well that heat is counteracting your oil coolers job when car is stationary

I haven't got space in front of the intercooler as it's right up against the inside of the bumper, I can't move the intercooler back due to the way I've routed my boost pipework.

I'm also not sure about the heat between the cooler and the turbo as it's still work in progress.

Turns out I might have room in the wheel arch for the 19 row, but it will have to bolt to the front bumper securing bracket, I'm not to sure how close it's going to run to the tyre though, I will have to bolt it up and turn the wheels etc,

Lots of fettling to do!

Ok so I've taken on the advice about oil cooler movement, and it fits behind the bumper,, just! I'm going to buy a brake duct and place it in the bumper to get the air to it and jobs a gooden! Cheers chaps!
