Lol you could've done all of that work in an afternoon, I did the same with my old Saxo and an E30 325I the other month.
Just get it on the road and enjoy it, it's never going to be a track car or fast. You don't have the budget or the patience. There's nothing wrong with that at all, just don't be a dreamer.

Get busy then, winter's the best time to work on your car IMO.
It's the only time of the year I get a week and a half or so off work in one chunk where I can make a lot of progress in one go, and I'd rather wrap up and get busy in the winter, then enjoy the car during the summer.
I will now obviously make no progress on my own over the xmas break and look like a total gobshite, lol.

I don't really get how people with young kids manage to do anything tbh. I can just about manage to get myself dressed, keep the house tidy and walk the dog.

agree! bought a little 1.1 desire just as a run around with the intention to tidy it up as its a bit of a shed, but with a Nipper and a job its near on impossible to even get 10 minutes to have a look!

Its hardly shouting his mouth off... I like this car and wish youd do a good job on it, however i know you wont mainly because of money and patience... Building a car isnt easy and its very time consuming, rather than you opening your mouth and biting off more than you can chew, accept the fact that its a cheap fun car, learn to fix it when you break it and over time youll think "ooh the suspension needs to be stiffer, ill get some b8's and look on the forum how to fit them..." Then later on, "ooh i want more power, ill get some cams or a 4-2-1 manifold, ill see whats the best for my budget and look at how todo it myself, if i get stuck i can always ask nicely and someone in my area whos more experienced than me will help, ill get them a crate of beer for there trouble..."
People are more likely to help and be understanding rather than you being a complete knob about it and getting stressed and making yourself look like a prat... Take the banter dont think youll build a sandy brown motor with no tools or knowhow or experience...
Listen to people around the forum look at build threads and go from there, read mine or ross's or jp's and youll see the stages of development and the lengths people go to, to get what they want... Just my advice...

Agree. However I've already had a saxo before this a few years back and that was semi stripped, buckets., harnesses, b8's etc etc so I know I want this to be at least as good as that was.

Well the engine conversion from vtr to gti was done by tweeqd, suspension and brakes etc by Andy Hammond as well as the predator ecu obviously. I enjoyed driving it and I had the cash back then to buy whatever I wanted for it really.

Yeah if I had the cash I would simply book it into a specialist with a blank cheque as I like driving but not so much the actual doing.

Right so weve established your completely new to the doing bit.. Now can you appriciate what work goes into a complete build... Ive only been developing mine for 18 months i spose... Youll never build a car and think thats perfect for me... Itll need a bit here and a bit there... change that to suit fitting the new part... modify that...
So whats the plan for yours now? Fast road/weekend car?

Its still being developed for track but the aim is to keep it road legal. If im going to put on all this effort then the least I should do is take it on the road every now and again to show the world what a real fwd car is all about!
Took my missus' 1.4 xr 5 door out to grab a take away earlier with my younger brother in the car and ended up playing with a 206 GTI which got his ass handed hehe. Thats with us driving the car with 13" wheels on the front and 14" on the back too lmao
Such fun fun cars

I agree lad, take the pink 106 out on the road now and again to show the world what a real fwd car is all about.

Also finished off two of the raptor wheels tonight. Look mighty epic if I say so myself. Just goes to show how important the prep work is. Plans are to wrap them in some nice semi slick rubber

Completely agree with that. Over the 9 years I've been developing mine I've constantly gone and done a couple of track days, or track time, or ring trips each summer.
When it comes to the end of the summer I think to myself 'what do I want/need to do to improve this?' - then over the next weeks or months I'll do my research, come up with a plan within a rough budget, save up over the winter UK months and do the improvements over winter/spring so it's ready for late spring and all summer.
That's the life cycle of a modified car. Oh and it's not a cheap hobby either - but when your spanking porches etc round the ring in the mango it's mightily rewarding

This. I've had 5 turbos on the 106 and not one has failed - I just keep changing my mind. The problem with changing your mind is it's expensive. Try aim have a picture in your head of how you want it finished and aim for that. That should hopefully just leave you with little bits and bobs to do not huge chunks of work that need re-doing.
