Default Help needed with temperature guage

Hi everyone.

I have a saxo vts mk2 and when i start the car from a cold start as it is off the road at the moment so doesnt get used much, the temperature guage on the right hand side of the dials shoots straight up to the top.

Any suggestions of whats causing this and how to rectify this matter would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks

When you turn on the ignition, the oil temp gauge reads the oil LEVEL. So if it's FULL it's going to hit the top of the gauge.

When the engine is running it goes to 0 until the oil gets warm.

Not all MK2 have a digital dash if you've got an early one.

Its not the oil level guage thats the problem it works fine. Ive got it sorted now. The plug on the sump sensor one of the wires wasnt connected but the other two were. Popped it back on and the gauge is working as it should now. Thsnks for all your help and input guys.
