Rocker Cover Re-Paint
Hi guys,
So I am wanting to paint the rocker cover as mine is looking past its best now.
When I take it off, will I need a new gasket or will I be able to re-use the old one, do you think? If not, where can I get a new gasket?
The car is Wicked Red, so I was thinking of doing the cover in the same colour. Does it need to be heat resistant or can I use ordinary aerosol paint?
Thanks for any advice!
Dan

I'd just get it powercoated. I got my ma's done on her 1.4 C3. And depends on the condition of it. I'd only replace it with a gen Citroen one though.

If it looks past it I'm sure your gasket will be past it. For about £8 it's worth a new one.

I'd rather spray it with aerosol, its easy to do and I can do it on my drive way in a few minutes. I like doing things myself, whereas i'd have to get someone else to do the powder coating as I have no facilities to do that here.
So new gasket it is then.
Whats the score with heat resistant paint or not?
Thanks again!

Just buy a new one, they aren't expensive. You don't need heat resistant paint for a rocker cover, it doesn't get hot enough to warrant it

The finish wont last or look as good, i Promise you that.
Theyre about 40, 50 quid new last i checked. You could get yours powercoated for 10, 15 quid.

Just aerosol it. Don't need high temp paint or powder coating. I done my 8v cover wicked red and lasted years and years. I also done my 16v covers over and over again. Load of bollox saying it will fade

Cheers guys. Yeah, I painted it in Wicked red aerosol from halfrauds (as cam says!)
I stripped it back to bare metal where the corrosion was bad and emery'd the rest of it.
Primed it with Zinc grey primer, also from halfrauds! Two coats of the primer and then two coats of the 'Wicked' red. Nice thin coats.
Looks much nicer.
I'll be taking the cam cover off tomorrow or next week to adjust the tappets as I there was more movement in them than I would like to see. Its quiet running when hot, but when cold it is tappety so thats the next job on the list!
