You need to know the lenght of the spring when it's assembled or when it's outside?

i hope your good with calculations then as knowing the standard length will help with nothing. if you any sort of different spring rate it will make the lowering different!

the company said they need to know the original spring length to make the springs, as they change the rate they will sort out the length of the spring at the end but in order to calculate everything else they need the said they need the original spring length

Why dont you just buy some already made aftermarket springs instead of fannying around getting custom ones made?
Making a big job out of a small job here mate.

Tell me what rate and ride height you want, whether your front end is standard 1.1 weight or has aftermarket engine, sound system etc, and i'll tell you what you want.
Also what dampers are you using?
Standard dampers are approx 275mm minimum spring length, aftermarkets can be much shorter.

nice one thanks alot! im not sure on what rate im after i wanted to know the spring length as the guy at the company said if i found this out he would let me no what rate was best for what height i wanted and if it was possible or not.
rate - im not sure
height - around 80mm drop
standard weight front end
sound system but not that much just amp and sub
dampers - spax adjustable are the ones i was going for > http://www.spax-suspension.co.uk/p1322857.htm

Ok well they will need to be approx 260mm long.
For that ride height with that little weight i've not calculted before, but by my estimations, unless you're going progressive, they will be far too soft for that ride height. And if you're going progressive, it'd take me a damn long time to work out. Wheel weighs on that car will be somewhere in region of 250-275kg per front corner unladen.

A spring manufacturer will design some progressives for you, they will need to know a hell of a lot of details though.
For instance, the 1.1 will sit 15mm higher than a vts if not more, on some 150lb springs. so a 240mm("45mm") 155lb spring will lower a 1.1 30mm, you want 50mm lower ride height, that's basically 200mm(8") springs. Gaz might sell you some normal dampers that will hold 8" springs without them unseating, as i know gaz dampers are pretty short. And even then 155lb when lowered 80mm just won't cut it. I'd probably be looking at double that to stop it bottoming out repeatedly, meaning you will definitely need coilovers(300lb main springs with some helpers) to do it properly.
It's complicated, and i'm not even thinking about it in that much depth.

yea the main thing is i want a proper setup i dont want to spend alot but at the same time dont want to buy cheap shit thats going to ruin the car as i drive it daily. i will have a word with this company and see what they say about the progressive springs. so am i right in thinking the spring length on my model is going to be roughly around about 285mm?
