Otrabrit
Hi
My 2000 "W" Reg 1.0 Saxo passed its MOT with flying colours this week but with one advisory which is that the front brake discs and pads need replacing sooner rather than later.
The garage who did the MOT is one I trust and they do my servicing but i just wondered whether their quote of £145 for labour parts and VAT was reasonable. It seems so but would appreciate any thoughts. I may give Kwik Fit a ring tomorrow and see what they quote.
Thanks
Derek in Northampton

Depends what they're putting on for you to be honest...
The cheapest crappiest disks + pads are £45 retail from euros without any trade discount, and it's about 30 minutes to 1 hour labor. These days garages are charging what... 60/hour? So that'd be £81-117
For brembo disks + pads, it'd be £75 + labor, or £111-147. Again, using ECP retail prices.
So personally I feel like they're right at the top end of what I'd stomach paying if I wasn't doing the work myself, so I think I'd ask exactly what parts they're going to fit, and then decide.

£145 seems reasonable if you were getting good discs and pads, such as brembos etc etc. However with the way the 1.0 (and 1.1) brakes are, spending more on brembos doesn't actually make enough, if any difference, to warrant spending the extra cash.
Like said above, if you could do it yourself, you'd only be spending about £50.

ECP and GSF always have discounts, I've just had an email today from gsf for 50% this weekend.
If you've got an hour spare and know what you're doing you can save yourself over £100.
Or, you're bound to know someone on facebook who does. Offer them some money to fit them for you.

Serves me right for opting out of their newsletter. Is there a code to go with that, or is it just an early warning that it's going live on their site?
