Should only do that with solid colours mate if you do that with metallic's you can open a whole box of trouble's.

only between layers of primer and solid colours yes. Wouldn't dream of doing it to a metallic, hard enough getting a decent finish with a rattle can, let alone un-doing all that hard work sanding it back!!
