sorry if in wrong section but is there any welders on here want to make some cash? would have to come to my house though as cars no tax or mot and engine is running poor. in rochdale. if anyone is interested let me know, il send you pics and then give me a price

ok if not then what is the going rate for welding? do they charge per hour? per metal used or what?

garages charge per hour for welding,. and as that sill is a jacking point then it'll ne re-enforcing, woul dhave done it for you myself but your just too far away

how much roughly would i be looking at then for the job at a garage? rough estimate? iv no idea about welding prices so dont want to be ripped off

not quite sure mate depends on their hourly rate. and what they actually do. i.e cut the old stuff out and re-weld or just weld ontop of old stuff.

errr i would estimate in the regon on £200-300 max for both, the sill will probs ake the longest. @ £50 per hour, wich is about the going rate that is 4-6 hours wich sounds about right,.

Get it all prepped and cut your metal to fit snuggly and someone will weld it for like £80

fair bit then. the sill is the rear drivers side jacking point. would the garage have to remove rear seats and carpet, or even the fuel tank to weld this bit? i could remove the seat and carpet to 'lower' if they need to be removed.
i need a mate who can weld on the cheep for me its a pain in the arse everyone i know who can weld doesnt own a welder lol. and this is all that needs doin before i get it booked in for mot again. been off the road for over 2months and its winding me up rotten

so if i got angel grinder and cut it out myself, it would cost me a lot lot less? how would i go about prepping the sill though?

dont know anyone with a trailer.kinda snookered. nearest garage that welds isnt to far but wouldnt want to drive it there, not worth the risk to others as well as me

4-6 hours to weld that? are you serious. Will take no longer than 2 hours top's and that's going slow. I did a boot / arch on a customers 106 that was twice as bad as that and a good 6 inches on the floor needed replacing too and we only charged her £50. The sill will be cheaper to buy a spurious panel and cut a patch from that saves making one and can be welded in in no time at all. wouldn't pay more than 150 for the welding and a half sill patch panel.

And don't blame you mate for not driving there not worth risking it. Why not try find a garage that does welding and mot's, Then you can book the car in for the mot and get the to weld it up first. Can legally drive a car 30 miles with no mot as long as its to a pre booked in test station.

Mate it`s not as simple as that you need to know what your doing(not being sarcastic)you could potentially do a lot of damage.

so many mixed prices lol.
il have to have a look around.
thing is with getting it booked with mot and welding at same time is the cash. most garages want to see what needs welding 1st before giving a price so dont want to book it in then they say oh mot £40 welding £300.
im not working at mo cos i had operation last month on my shoulder so cash is pritty low. so ideally i need welding done then mot the week after or so.
just hope the welding isnt going to cost arm and a leg and i should be fine.

As steve said. I assumed you might have the right idea unless you were just simplifying it.

Work out which would be the neatest repair aswell as simple and easiest onto good metal.

Cut out the damaged area, neaten it up. Sand back where the welds will be.

Get another sheet of replacement metal and work out a shape, cut all that out and give it a rough shape so all they need to do is tack it on and then weld it all up.

Might be best if you left it all to them though. £300 is over estimated imo especially 8 hours or whatever he said.

never used an angel grinder before.... ever. so mite not be worth the risk, but id imagine its take your time do it, in short bursts, so do a cut, allow to cool a sec cut a bit again? then sand the cut edges down, and treat with rust treatment or something. am i on the right track there?
