Default Icelandic VTR by the Big Duck - Conversion Started

Not much done today the mrs wanted a day out to the trenches (Alnwick), Cam Shaft seals in, inner cam belt covers on, pulleys on and set to TDC.

Water pump and head to be fitted tomorrow, hopefully I'll get the time to get it timed up tomorrow:

Few things done yesterday, head fitted everything set to TDC, new tensioner and pulley fitted.

Had a mare after I noticed that I'd been sent the wrong head bolts so it was a quick trip to euro parts. Sorted but £24 lighter.

New oil filter on and have the cams a good soak in oil before the JP4 covers went on.

Just needs timing up and everything hooked up which I might get done this weekend.

Correct, there's a hole big enough to fit your head through. It's a donor car though, I'm just building the engine back up into this shell then I'll drop the lump out as one to go into my R.

Cheers Matt, not been that bad of a job. Just dropped a few quid into it but the end is in sight. JP4 covers as so much better, makes me wonder why the J4 covers weren't like them.

Started to get pissed off with the central locking so I've got a hawk kit. Fobs look pretty shit but it'll be better than using the key and for £20 can't moan.

For 20 quid the hawk locking kits aren't too bad and so easy to fit with the guide on here its child's play. I was getting sick of using the key

Standard fob was just temperamental plus I had to practically be touching the car for it to work. Just want something reliable.

After getting married and moving house progress came to a standstill.

Dropped the tank off yesterday as word has it swapping the tank is easier than pissing about with the R tank.

Pulled the fuel return out which was a right fuck on but it's done.

Onto today, lifted the lump out:

Going to time it up tomorrow get the inlet manifold on as well as the alternatot. Hook everything up so its ready to go in maybe later in the week.

Need to put a new clutch, clutch cable and throttle cable in too.

Got everything back on now, going to bang a new clutch in tomorrow.

Just have to wait for the scrap man to come take the shell of the donor car away tomorrow to make room on the drive for the R then get cracking on the conversion.

Started the conversion on Friday, stripped everything ready to pull the engine out and ended up with a seriously stubborn ball joint!

Saturday got the shafts out, dropped the exhaust and removed the last couple of plugs. Was a bit worried what was waiting for me under the ECU, low and behold a patch of rust about the size of 50p. Once the conversion is finished I'll get that cut out and a plate welded in.

Pulled the engine out today was a bit of a pain by myself but it's done. Pretty happy as I got more done than planned so my week off will be productive.

I'll get a few of the cleaner jobs done tomorrow, swap locks, barrel and immobiliser fitted. Get the clutch and throttle cable replaced and run the fuel line.

Get the engine in Tuesday and hook everything up and hopefully finish by Wednesday. That's the plan anyway.

Cracked on with some of the smaller jobs to do today as I couldn't really be arsed. Swapped the Immobiliser over, ignition barrel ran the fuel return which was a bit of a bastard but it's ticked off the list.

Also ran the throttle cable and a new clutch cable. Clutch cable was a fucking nightmare to do even with the engine out. Fuck trying to do one with the engine in.

Anyway all the interior jobs are done apart from swap the door barrels and petrol cap lock. so tomorrow will be fit a new clutch and get the engine in at the very least. Hoping the weather holds out as I want to turn the key Wednesday or Thursday.

New clutch fitted

Fitted a new roll pin

Cleaned all the shit off the box and put everything together. Just put a bit paint on the box to tidy it up. Not amazing but it's something.

Couldn't get the engine in as the wind was fucking with the bonnet when it was up and didn't want to risk it folding back and smashing the windscreen. Engine in tomorrow weather dependant.
