Default How to : Fit 4-2-1 Raceland to 1.4/VTR MK2's

I found a few problems when fitting my raceland manifold to my mk2 1.4 Furio so thought id take pics as i went along to help out anyone. Il try make this guide as simple as possible ok
Start off with a lovely looking Manifold like mine below

Start with removing the manifold heat shield, unplug the top and bottom lambda sensor, but dont worry about unscrewin them from the old maniold yet. Use WD40 on all the bolts and leave them to soak and then undo all of them. Undo the bolts connecting the manifold to the exhaust aswell using a 10 mil spanner and 10 mil socket wrench.

Now to get the manifold out i had to unclip the radiator and push it in towards the front bumper to create extra space. This is a 2 person job as one has to support the manifold from underneath and one hold the radiator back and lift the old manifold out. Once done it should like this...

(I removed the alternator the 1st time i tried fitting my manifold this dosn't need to be done).

Now remove the old gasket and clean up the bolts and studs, dont worry if they came out just screw them back in. You can use new bolts and studs but as its just a 1.4 i didnt bother.

The Raceland 4-2-1 manifold will need the oil filter moving, the oil pressure sensor moving, and a sleeve for the bottom lambda sensor. Here is how i got round these problems....

The Oil Filter Problem
You will need a MK1 Oil filter and adapter the part which lets the mk1 filter screw onto the engine block. You will also need a M10 Tap and a M10 Screw.

Start off by placing something like a container to catch all the oil when you remove your mk2 oil filter. Remove the 4 bolts holding filter, and unplug the sensor at the bottom and unscrew it from the base of the filter housing, you will need these. Place the mk2 filter and housing in the container and move it away.

You will be left with a site like this...

Now you need to plug the hole on the right using the M10 Tap and M10 Screw, this is the oil return hole which isnt relevant to the MK1 Oil filter your about to put on.

Screw the adapter into the big hole and then screw the new mk1 oil filter onto this, make sure its nice and tight.

Oil Pressure Sensor Problem
There is a plug in the engine block around the middle which you need to remove. I couldnt get a tool for it so my m8 smacked a big allen key into and managed to remove it using that. This is where the removed oil pressure sensor must go.
(In this pic the oil return hole had not yet been plugged you can see it the right of the MK1 Oil Filter)
I found that when my Manifold was on it melted the sensor as it was touching so had to rebuild it making it smaller. I would of thort the MK1 sensor is smaller so you could purchase 1 to get round that problem.

Now you can fit your manifold its fairly simple im not going to talk through it as others have just search if you need to know.

The Lambda Sensor Problem
The lambda sensors on the old manifold can now be removed. The top one screw that into the hole in the manifold and plug the wire back into the right plug, will have to go down the back of the engine to reach. Now the other sensor needs to read clean air so needs a sleeve, i didnt have the time to order one so made one out of copper pipe (il get a picture up soon), that i sat next to the battery in the engine bay. I have found no problems with the running of my car from doing this.

The Finished Result

So hopefully that will help everyone who is fitting a raceland to a Furio or mk2 VTR. Sorry its long i thought i would try and get out as much information as i can, ill add to it if i feel ive missed anything out Enjoy!

Part Numbers
The Oil Filter Insert - 1103A7 @ £2.07 excl VAT
The MK1 Oil Filter - 1109N3 @ £2.95 excl VAT
Big Bolt for attaching manifold to gearbox - 210314 @ £1.87 excl VAT

Now those werent on a printed out invoice just on a written one so hard to read, i think there right thow. From Citroen Parts Desk.

where did you get the mk1 adaptor? From Citroen parts desk? If so a part number would be very useful
Good guide!

Is this correct?

Also what you used is for restoring existing threads and shouldnt really be used as a tap to cut a new thread.

Good guide tho, well done.

I think i heard predator_vtr saying that a r5 gtt oil filter fits straight on and is small enough for the raceland mani to fit around on a mk2.

Has anyone tried this? Does it work? Will the filter fit straight on and run ok?
