Is it possible to remove the radius arms off the actual axle? from what i have heard it is but its not easy and you have to replace the bearing to refit them, is this right? Reason for asking is my axle bearings are shot but iv got an axle with a bent arm and thinking off swapping the arms.

They are called trailing arms and yes you can remove them. It can be done but its no good for the bearings. Better off getting the bearings properly done on your axle or a full axle refurb.

yes,they are removable but chances are a set of bearings will be too little too late as in most cases its the stub pin thats pressed into the actual axle tube thats worn away as well, ruins new bearings in very short order.

Whats the best way to get them off? Iv got a decent set of stub pins to fit if they are worn but i dont think they are. You need a 30 tonne press to fit new bearings??

no,you need the press to get the stub pins out of the tube. To get trailing arm off,detach lower shocker mount, remove anti roll bar,remove torsion bar on relevant side,detach all brake fixings, remove trailing arm. Hold head in despair at condition of stub pin,buy used axle,find used axle lasts 2 months,hold head in despair again, contact IM axles,grease palms with silver and drive away all smiley with spunking re-con beam with years of life left in it!

Bearings can be done without the press as far as i know.

Stub pins need to be pressed out.

I have just had the bearings done on mine. The guy that did it is a specialist and said he does the bearings in about 8 PSA beams a week. On mine the stub pins were good enough to last a while with new bearings.

Yea he said in most cases the stub pins are badly pitted.

However he doesn't use the OE spec bearings. Showed me bearings he put in which have more rollers and larger contact area with the pin for pins that have pitting that isn't too bad.

So basically the press is for getting the stub pins out? this is a wind up right??? my old man got mine out on my old axle with a hammer and heat, it didnt even bent..... So i cant simply take the arms off one axle and fit to another aslong as i replace the bearings??? im not bothered if it tartds u again 3 or 4 months down the line as i might not have the car then lol.

think you're maybe confusing stub pins and stub axles

all depends how badly gone they are mate, i took mine to bits put the new bearings in and put it back on the car n it wasnt much better than when i took it off. they were the arms and if the bearings turned to dust like most of them do then they start wearing the axle casing n then theres no going back

Abit off topic but, when you notice play in one of the rear arms how long is it guna last before it starts effecting the wheel camber and also what will be the consequence of not changing the beam for quite a long time.
