Sony Alpha 550
My mum use to own a Sony Alpha 200 and unfortunatly our house got broken into and it was stolen.
She is now after a new camera and is interested in the Sony Alpha 550. I was just wondering what people's views and experiences on this camera are and is it worth spending the extra money over the Alpha 200. And is there any other cameras you would recommend that you think are better for the same sort of budget?
Cheers

if everythings gone i wouldnt bother with the sony stuff.
Go nikon/canon and have a wider range and more second hand stuff available.

Yep starting from scratch, So what camera's would you recommend at that sort of budget?
Also one of the main reasons for that camera was it has the stability thing built in instead of having to get the more expensive lenses.

if you ever want second hand glass though try finding people on forums etc that have it.
Also go to sell a lens etc. you also have a limited market.
Its the main gripe with why i allways say to people stick to the main two, you have a much wider audience using those systems and its alot easyer to trade with them. The sony glass even though it doesnt have IS on it still isnt cheap from when I last looked.
For £600, you might be able to get a 50D, or a plastic bodied 500D and a lens, i dont pay attention to the nikon stuff to know whats what other than the pro bodies like the D3 lol

To follow on from Ryan's post, £400 can get you the Nikon D3000 with a 18-55mm kit lens. £600 can get you the next model up which is the D5000 with lens. Both are entry level dslr's so perfect for beginners or non serious shooters.
Have a look on jessops website. They usually just sell the latest stuff on the market anyway.
