If you still have the 6250 rev limit, I'd say a VTS/ S2 Rallye box should be ideal.
All out of luck on this particular box picture, I think its diesel box. However the weird thing is after research on rallye/106 forums it seems a lot of people find this gearbox code in their xsis. The seller has just told me he took it out of a xsi he broke but it could have had its box swapped in the past I think. Im hoping its had a rebuild with the diesel but I think that might be a bit optimistic of me. How many teeth are on the crownwheel for the diesel boxes, just for reference?

Not too sure on the pinion/ crownwheel teeth count, but the diesel box final drive should be 3.765.

Bit peeved at having that bought that diesel box on the pretence of it being an XSi box, so have just purchased an S1 106 1.3 rallye gearbox to fit to the VTR

Had the series 1 rallye gearbox delivered today, seems to be reasonably clean externally. Needs a couple of selector rod balls but I'll get some or salvage some from the VTR.

The all important CB90 gearbox code

Diesel gearbox is up for sale on ebay at the moment so grab a bargain if you want it

Looking good

How easy was it to take the valves and springs from the head? I would like to rebuild my head but i'd need to do it over the weekend because i need the car for work.

Was this the tool you used?

What do you mean you re ground the valves?

You need a big one to take the valves out - not sure if it that laser one is the same as mine, but I bought one that was too small to begin with. Not sure of the sizes though. Halfords was the closest place so I went and go the one they stock and it worked a treat. By grinding in the valves, I cleaned them up with a flap disc/wire brush in a drill then use valve grinding paste and a tool to give them a good seal when shut. There is loads of guides on this knocking about the 'net that can explain what you do better than I can but basically you add some engineers blue or pencil marks on the valve seat then put the coarse paste on the back of the valve and twist until it stops making noise/feeling rough. Then do the same again with the finer grain stuff. Should take the pencil marks off and leave a dull grey finish on the seat which means you have a good seal but bare in mind it does take a while

Really like this, not 100% sure why. Looks really purposeful at that height, on plain silver 205 gti's, with all the silly colours gone. Looks just simple and hard

Yeah sure mate, or I could pop over your way. Quite a few of us over here with GTI/VTS projects, one of my mates is doing a throttle body conversion to a GTI at the moment.

Will keep my eye on this one, going FCS this sumer?

Didnt have time to fit the gearbox this weekend as someone mentioned alcohol however my parts for it did turn up, saved me a lot of hassle stripping the box down. Might have a play with it tomorrow, see if I can get it on the car providing the weather warms up.

Bit of progress - VTR gearbox out, going to give it a clean and sell it on as its a decent box.
Rallye gearbox will be fitted in the next few days, need another pair of hand to help me plus I need to pick up some gearbox oil

Rallye box is in now and was a complete bugger to do as was probably the worst weekend to choose to do it, even in a garage with a heater, as it was -10 degrees outside round here with half a foot of snow falling on saturday. Heaving the box on was a nightmare with freezing hands, even with two mates helping.
All thats left to do is sort some exhaust blows after realigning it and to put the wheels back on.
