All,

Last week the Saxperience server migrated to a new platform. Whilst the scripts/framework this site is running on are a decade (or more) out of date and no longer supported, unfortunately this can lead to some server stability issues.

That said, since migrating to the new platform things have been running much more stable.

People message me from time to time to offer to host this community themselves. That is not an option I am open to.

If people want to support the community, there are ways you can do this.

Due to the PayPal integration requiring multi-factor authentication, I’m pretty sure I disabled Premium membership purchases some time last year.

Honestly, there have only been about 3 people choose to purchase premium membership in the past 2 or 3 years anyway.

Many people say we must not allow this valuable information to be lost like other platforms, etc… but are you willing to make a small contribution? Nobody has for a very long time.

Adding a PayPal donation link is simple… but will anyone use it?

As things stand, the community will continue, but upgrading the site code and database to current/supportable code/platforms is a big job and not likely to happen any time soon. Or will it??

Seen it once in town and he drove it like he was looking for a ditch. Friend of mine called me after seeing it with the rear axle and bodywork ever so slightly warped.

Miss how it was fun to drive, really don't miss the ''culture'' around it or attracting chavs and boyracers everywhere I went.

Two years ago, I purchased a premium account to help support server costs. I hope to renew it soon, but PayPal is banned in my country.

Currently premium membership is not available as the automated activation between the forum and PayPal is not working… as PayPal updated some things and I have not updated the forum to match.

I could activate membership requests manually… or if there is interest from a few people I could try to fix the PayPal issue.

Quick update on server stability and site being offline frequently due to server needing to be reset…

Mark agreed to do some old skool admin work. The server was being bombarded by 3000+ bots/crawlers/indexers continuously, putting too much load on the server.

Some pretty strict changes have been implemented this evening to deny un-wanted guest access before causing load on the database.

Server load is now reduced by 95%.

If this stabilises the server, we may start to think about re-enabling and improving some other processes (like email activation!)

I am going away on business for a few weeks tomorrow, so further changes will have to be wait a while.

There’s a small risk some legitimate users will get denied access… let me know if any issues.

Fingers crossed the server stays online and behaves well going forwards.

Almost a month has passed by since the changes were made to reduce unwanted server load. No issues experienced over that month… so things are now zipping along nicely.

The future of this place depends on the users now… use it or lose it

Congrats on the transition, though I'm guessing most people have moved on.

I saw a VTR yesterday, first time I've seen a saxo in months - when they used to be on almost every other street corner.

Saxos seem to be making a comeback with some of the old skool, but they are now pretty rare for sure.

There was a lot of talk about Saxperience not working reliably on Facebook groups and some people wanted to scrape all of the history on Saxperience and host it independently… hence this effort to try to future-proof our history.
