Default Faster Internet Help

Hi, i have 50mb broadband, supplied by virgin media along with TV and phone.
is there anyway to make it faster, just seems really slow even when theres only like 2 things on it.
Only me and my girl use it.

I have got a N+ router, and the desktop pc has a N wireless card.
The laptop has a standard card in it.

I have about 7 devices on the system, but they are never on all together.
Thanks

Have you done a speed test?

Has it been confirmed that is it definitely 50mb where you are?

By who Virgin?

I'm sure it would've said "up to 50mb'. Ok speed tests may not be 100% accurate but I doubt they'll be miles off. Try the one on the Gadget show site and see what you get.

Virgin are just ntl under a different guise afaik, and they were pretty bad.

connect to the router using ethernet, i got 49mb that way but dont get it with the supplied wireless N stuff, might buy a high powered N card rather than the dongle, although i still get in the 40's with it

50mb Virgin media is notoriously slow due to over subscribing on the system. They won't be able to cope with the 50mb demand well into next year apparently.. you'de be better off downgrading to the 20mb service, you will get a much more stable connection and if there's only 2 of your using it , be plenty fast enough.

This is what a Virgin engineer told me when I was at my mates house
