247mm pad advice -- rc5+ bought and used...they ROCK!

Right guys im on the lookout for a set of pads for my vtr toy

Its got the oe 247mm discs and calipers currently budget pads and they fade like fuckers
Im looking at 1155 or ds3000 but ive never used them in standard calipers so im after a little input on whats best basically

Car is pretty much only gunna get used hard
And currently after 2 hard brakes ive got fade starting after 4-5 ive no brakes

Anyone think that the 1155 or 3000s will be up to the task o track work?


I cant go bigger calipers ect btw im on a strict budget lol

Be interesting to know your findings on this when you get it on track. I'm on DS2500s currently.
I should say you'll be eating discs regularly though using any of the ones you mentioned

Gandi, you can't have everything, you can have superb performance and high wear rates, poor performance and low wear rates or a compromise. It's as simple as that unless you are very very wealthy

I hear the more aggressive pads listed here arent recommended for road use as they just dont get to the temps required? Hence there being compromise pads. Saxo discs are cheap enough to change anyway at about £30 for fronts it isnt going to break the bank

They will get to the right temperature just not when you first jump in the car and press the brake for the first time. You'd be an idiot to drive hard from cold anyway.

I'm sure I read some of the compounds were banned for road use? I'm not a rev limiter user from cold haha

I personally think that 2500's are more than up to the job....

I used them on my Teg which was heavier and they are very very good.
no need to go up to 3000's IMO.

Teg has a bigger setup to counter the weight ive seen a similar weight saxo to mine getting fade at donnington on 2500s so id like a little more from them ive got 1155s in my 4pots on the 106 and there allright but obviously its a much larger setup than what my saxos got

similar to between 1144 and 1155 they suit higher temps ect i think thay may be a tad far but i dunno which is kinda the point of the thread lol

ive never considered a full on race pad which is like rc6 ect i think i dunno

DS3000's are awesome! Light pedal pressure is all thats required BUT they eat discs and all that hot metal ends up sticking to your paint work then you get rusty marks running down the side of the car when it rains.

Mintex 1155/1166's would be a good choice, i tried the DS2500's but they performed poorly.

I use Carbotech XP8's, i like.

I would consider pagid's range. Pricey, but well worth the money. Good durability and offer a good range of race pads depending on what you are after. rs14 blacks would be my choice. i run rs4-2 blue's on the road and love them

Seen rs4 blues before in a mates clio they didnt seem that good in his but not had any experience myself

If you follow things this was 950 quid as it stands i can sell it for a profit easliy the 106 gearbox is shredded and this os easier cheaper and less if i bend it
I actually have a trackday booked for it aswell as some rwyb action planned with a few mates

Its by no means "awesome" but its not bad i can enjoy it this year sell it at the end and use the cash i make to sort my pugs gearbox over winter ready for next year and thein i should be set to just use the pug on track

Christ where have you been Colin? Been looking for updates for ages from yourself on both here and shed haha!

Only ever used yellow EBC's on mine but I have never needed a reason to go elsewhere. Always been fantastic with my setup anyway. I think next time I'm going to try some RC5+'s though just to see if there is any further improvement.

2500 been fine for when I've had to hammer them but for you alex I'd go CL or 3000s
