get a heater gun and take those sound deadning sheets out. Replacements if your really bothered arent hard to find. They can hide rust!
far from the worst shell ive seen, nice one.

Yeah that will all be coming out at some point. Seems solid underneed anyway as we went around with a screw driver poking to see what was solid.

The floor pans tend to go under those sheets and the corners of the boots but generally the rot on the outside eg wings and arches, the shells tend to be pretty decent!

well it seems really solid so i'd be surprised if there was rust under them sheets. Will find out next weekend though!

It's a while off yet but I need some ideas for wheels, any suggestions? Something a bit different!

Personally, i have minilights on mine.
I think that the trend of sticking the wheels way out from the arches looks properly crap.
mines abit 'track style' if you like.

Starmags suit them really well, minilites, RS four spokes. IMO just all the simple, retro wheels with correct offset and correct fitting tires.
For me at least, on coilovers, down about 100mm with standard wheel arches (not XR2 or other wide arches) and skinny bumpers with a set of minilites on decent Yoko's or Toyo's is a tough look!

I love the wide acrh look tbh, I think it makes them look mean! Got any pics of yours?

Cheers, I will google them later and have a look

Just a little update.

Today we tried to get the engine running but it wouldn't start. So we decided to check the spark plugs and HT leads to make sure they were all spraking. Upon removing sprak plug no.2 this decided to happen (1st pic below) so we got a plug out of my mates car and continued still with no luck so we decided just to take more of the car. The engine is going to be rebuilt or changed at some point, so either way it running was not really that important.

Removed most of the stuff in the engine bay bar the engine. Also took the lights and trim off and that is all that was done today. Next stage will be to drop the engine out and clear the engine bay of rust and rust proof it.

Right another update.

Today the engine was removed, got it out and took the gearbox off. Who needs an engine crane when you have man power Can get on with the grinding next weekend! Hopefully will manage to get most of the engine bay clean.

There's a bloke near me has one in white that he uses as a daily. I thin he's a decorator and at some point has shut the boot on a ladder and the windows now a sheet of mdf! But would be awesome to see one of these just lookin clean and standard but with a proper lump at the front! Keep the 1.1 written on the boot but fit a big engine and shock a lot of people!

That was clever! lol. For now I am going to rebuild the engine I have, tidy up the body work and get it resprayed along with a coilover and wide arch kit so I can get it looking smart and hopefully ready in a few months time for a couple of shows. Going for the low and slow look for now just to keep it simple! Then the idea is to get saving for something a bit mental and drop it in later on in the year or next year.

Well over the last couple of days, I have been working on the engine bay. Got most of it cleaned up now and the bits that I have grinded the rust away I have covered it in primer (well, untill I ran out) just to prevent it from rusting again. The back half of the engine bay just needed a clean and has come up quite well. Still needs a bit more done though, but as you can see it's looking much better than what it was!

Also when I was griding the rust away I came across this. It looked like it has been repair before and filled with body filler as it just dissapeard when I used the grinder on it so I will be getting that welded up properly.

Tomorrow I will continue to clean the engine bay down, then once that is done I am going to start prepping the inside/underside for the rost patches to be done.

Matt that is beautiful! What engine were you running in that? Looks alot like my 1.1 lump. Was that completely restored to be in that condition or had it been well looked after?

I had lightly restored it. An old boy had bought it brand new and garaged it only using it to drive to his allotment and back once a week. It had been serviced by a ford dealer, MOT'd and taxed every year from new, and when he died i asked his old lady if she would let it go, she asked for £1000, i offered £900 and has my mum drive it home. (was only 16)
It was totally, totally mint! 22,000miles on the clock.
I detailed it underneath and on top, then got very lucky and found some decent cheap bits.
In order from getting it home.
I took the head off, decoked it, re seated the valves and repainted it, rebuilt the carb, re set the points and serviced it, replaced the brakes, cleaned up the gearbox case with a dremel and a wire brush, re-sprayed the inner arches the colour of the car, repainted the rocker cover.
Bought as new minilites with tires for £120 at newark auto jumble
New koni dampers for £100 of ebay
fiesta centre 50mm lowering springs £70 ish
XR2 kit £40 off ebay
Replica cobra classics on beetle runners for £100, sold the runners for £30 and made my own.
All in was a very very nice little first car.
Now im putting a 1640 with twin 40s in it, totally stripped with perspex as it can be my toy car now i have newer more sensible ones.
