Not sure whether there will be much love for a 23 year old rotten rice burner on here but hey ho may as well up seeing as its 'nearly' done.
Ive always wanted a 4G Civic since my Dad came home in one way back in 1998 when he was a dodgy used car salesman.
After the K20 Saxo was sold last year I found out about this beast in a local scrappy and it was about to be crushed. Long story short I didn't buy it until Sept 13 and it was in a very sorry state.
It is a 1991 Civic ED7 1.6i16 (Non vtec d series) with 129k on the clock. It hadn't even been SORN'ed since 2007 and I didn't even know if it ran but just couldn't let another go to the scrapyard in the sky!
It had rusty sills, no wheels or bumpers and the rear quarter window had been smashed so was soaking inside.
The plan is/was to get it MOT'd then start to tidy everything up then eventually engine swap it.
So it began.
First I had to see if it was a runner. We took out the plugs and soaked the bores with WD and left all afternoon. Then put into gear and pushed her forward to check it wasn't seized....NO whoop whoop!
Plugs back in, connected up a battery and a splash of fuel.
Turned the key and BOOM! Less than a quarter of a turn and it fired into life. VERY loud though as it had a manifold only that was rusty as hell.
Now it was a runner we set about getting it ready for test. My mate did a check over and decided that other than the obvious rust, bumpers and exhaust etc, it needed a couple of bushes and that was pretty much it.
First up new rear filler bar as the one it had was rotten.
Then got to seeing how bad the paint was and whether it was salvageable. Although not the most important thing at the time, it felt like Id made good progress just because of how it looked!
Then found out it has had the bump strips smoothed! I hadn't even noticed!
Up on the ramps at my mates where all of the work has been done.
Euro car parts have started selling 'classic' car parts and picked up these complete sills for about £75ish
Then the ATR my Dad was breaking donated these...
New sills welded in
New CV gaitors, drop links and bushes.
Sills on and painted
Rear bumper fitted and exhaust fudged on. Made this with an old DC2 exhaust I had and a backbox I bought off 4GUK. As its going to be swapped eventually, I have fudged the exhaust, air filter etc as it will all be changed.
Starting to take shape with bumpers mounted and doors back on.
Dirty engine bay! Also the Frankenstein airfilter my mate made up and the stainless manifold I bought.
All ready for test. Note the Clio Renaultsport Phase 1 Alloys lol
After a full machine polish and then SRP the night before MOT (Last thursday)
It went for test on Friday and failed on rear brake balance and nothing else! SO Monday this week, it had a new rear caliper/pads on and back for test.
Boom! Passed!!
As soon as it had passed, it had new Cambelt, Alt belt and waterpump so I know its all good for a while (while I save for swap parts lol)
Passenger Recaro 'nearly' fitted. Took me four hours to get it to this state but still needs a bit of fettling and bracing.
Taxed it today and tomorrow Im whacking some new plugs in then do an oil change sometime this week ready for the NW RR day on the 16th!
C&C welcome!
