Mazda RX8
Well after my civic type r was destroyed by a drink driver,
I went an got myself a mazda RX8.
It's a great wee car and I do enjoy driving it but can't help but keep looking at what I want to move onto.
Thoughts are very very low mpg and it doesn't use anywhere near as much oil as people made out.

not unreliable if looked after properly?
i believe that rotary engines require a lot more attention than piston engines.
nice car btw, thumbs up for jap!

They're basically disposable, I hear under a Mazda service they just give you a new car!

They are known for being unreliable but really they just need a lot more attention than a piston engine but they were sold in mass to people who wouldn't think of them any different
Saying that muzizzle is right it cost me nothing to buy the car it's not the end of the world if it does die, wouldn't be happy about it mind you
Yeah it's the 230 version
Feel like I want a fast barge now

Had a short drive in one of these (twice) today as we've just taken one in P/X at work and have always been intrigued as to what they're like.
One thing I realised is how hard you've got to push them to really go places and the torque is non existent right down low - I tried to pull away rolling in second it didn't like it at all lol.
It is reasonably quick tbf though... it has got a lovely gear throw as well actually

I'm stuck in the situation where I don't quite have the money for anything I really want just now, does run really well tho no problems starting hot or cold which is the sure sign of losing compression.
Yeah they only really get going once you rev them but I'm used to that with the 306 and the type r
Was looking at a couple of older S4 avants recently and s6s but then I sway the complete other way an look at 350z an s2000s lol

Theres a few ways to increase the life of the engine so its worth reading up on that.
Great engines. I'm considering getting one myself at the trade auctions so I can use it for a donor. Due to simplicity of their design they are relatively inexpensive to get rebuilt (on the grand scheme of things) though its a £3k wedge of cash to throw at a low value car.

My boss had one of these, other than a drop of oil he never touched it he said it was a good reliable car.
Girlfriends father bought one about 4 months ago as he always wanted one, so spent over the odds to find a good low miler with history. Has already spent a good extra grand on it due to faults and misfires that it's had with various things going wrong. Think he had to replace the injectors or something similar, and now the eml is back on for something different now and that was about 3 weeks ago. Luck to the draw I guess but he's not the kind of person who looks after a car so it'll always be that for him with one of these!

Nice cars, I have a Nordic green one
Get the coils checked as they arnt a service part but need changing regularly abd not with eBay ones, also check the plug leads
A little bit of two stroke pre mix works wonders on how they run and start
They do need to be revved but they handle very well even when pushed

dont be afraid to rev it, they need it, carbon build up is a bitch on the 13b, main reason for apex and end seal failures, rev the nuts off it and it breaks it all away with no bother. you used to have to hold the revs at 2500rpm beore you turn the ignition off on the rx-7's otherwise it would be a bitch to start when hot, idk if its like that anymore.
a well looked after rx-8 shouldnt use oil, a little yes, but nothing out of the ordinary.
you have a very well sorted car, i have had the plesure of driving one around for quite a while, and it was quite simply one of the most balanced cars i have ever driven.
mazda know what they are doing fair play.
