"Note:
The condition of the spare tyre is not part of the MOT.....An externally fitted spare wheel or spare wheel carrier must not be so insecure that it is likely to fall off."

Seems a reliable source from MOTRules & Regs wesbite.

Just something i've found to help make an MOT a bit cheaper! http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-mot

Main advice seems to be to get the MOT done by a council test centre. They don't do any kind of repairs so have no interest in failing you to make a bit of extra cash.
A lot of MOT's ive had done have failed on loads of little things, that if I went to a council centre I don't think would have failed! Worth a read anyway

I noticed about fog lamps. It says its mandatory for one rear fog lamp to work which is either in the centre or offside. My leftside fogs are out, that won't result in a fail, will it?

the spare tyre is not part of the mot, if the spare tyre is flat or bald etc then it is only an advisory to say that the spare tyre cannot be used, but under the road traffic act the spare tyre should be usable and correct

only if it obscures your view of the road and is bigger than 40mm which is in zone 'B' of the windscreen, the tester is being picky if he fails it for that

no, as long as the fog light works in the center or offside position then that is correct
