Premium Membership
I'm curious, how come it is so expensive?
I've done the rounds on a lot of car enthusiast forums, and there membership costs are a lot cheaper.
I am a member that doesn't need the tutorials, nor the online space for avatars or even the email system but I am curious, as there doesn't seem to be an option for the likes of myself to support the site, in a cheaper form with less extras - which in all honesty I myself will see no gain from.
Could there not be a cheaper 'Premium' Membership option which is lesser to the 'Online' variant?
Just an idea, it may sound stupid but it’s just something that crossed my mind.
DJ.

ONline membership used to cost £7, but as with everything, prices only go one way.
THe last time I made a major invesyment to the server hardware the online membership cost rose to £10.
COnsidering the features, which some other forums offer for the same price, personally I dont feel a cost of less than 3pence per day is excesive.
Feel free to provide example prices and features of the other clubs youve looked at. Im genuinely interested.
An option LESS than online memebrship include what exactly? (what would you like to see)
Thanks
Simo

alot of clubs just ask for donations, then you become a "donator" rather than a premium member.
some people wont donate but alot will be willing to donate a couple of quid im sure

it may seem expensive. but i dont think it is, if you buy 2 magazines. read them for a few days. then discard them. thats almost £10 gone. and most info in magazines can found on the internet these days. so that money has been completely wasted.
i would pay twice as much, as long as it helped secure the future of sax-p.

i did brush on this is premium forum.
there could be a member option for less for people that dont need the saxo content/tutorials etc which just included the bigger inbox and pager privileges or something....
to be fair though danny, theres no point coming on here saying its too expensive without any real ideas or solutions.

£15 quid a year expensive???
Thats bugger all. I think £20 would be OK.
The guides you get, discount, etc etc, worth every penny.
Case closed imo

I haven’t had chance yet, I've been away all weekend.
But I agree with above, something were a member who doesn't want the discounts etc, but could be useful for extra inbox space, access to the premium section of the forum but who could still donate a it extra.
15£ is an opinion on expense, some people find it expensive, some don't - but for a forum, were I don't really buy stuff for the Saxo so don't get the benefits of discounts, etc it does seem expensive.
For example, look at http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/join/
5£ a year and seems relatively similar to what you get in terms of discounts and forum privileges! Where as Corsa Sport is £12.50 a year, which IMO seems more reasonable than 15£
I think (and this is just my opinion) you should have;
£12 - Premium
£8 - Online
£5 - Lesser option
Also the irony is nobody has posted in this thread that isn't a Premium member, so most of the comments are a bit one sided too!

I'd welcome feedback from non-premium members...
The reality of the matter is though every month several hundred pounds worth of bills need to be paid in order to keep this community running to the standard it currently does.
All communities face a similar issue. Some have cheaper bills and offer lesser services. Some have more expensive bills and have more advanced hardware/software.
Some communities rely on google adsense, banner clicks, etc... some try to rely on membership sub's and limited affiliate banners, to protect the memebrs from lots of random banenrs.
There are a whole range of reasons why the current membership fees apply... and it all boils down to that's the combination which is currently managing to pay the bills each month.
Yes, the prices could be cheaper... but only if there was an increase in member uptake... which is not a guarantee.
I still feel the options available (online & full) represent good value for money... and the value keeps getting better as more and more utilities are added.

But what about a Lesser alternative? So you have 3 options?

its a tenner a year, less than a quid a month for your extra pm storage etc
i think thats very reasonable when you consider saxp hardly ever goes offline (once a year if that) when compared to other 'rival' sites
i personally feel your being abit tight but i think maybe an option in the shop to increase your inbox size for say 5 quid a year would suit you?

How am I being tight? This idea is to benefit everyone, I'm not even fussed about the membership - I'm trying to have my say, is that not aloud?

i paid for it one year, when it came to renewal i realised i didnt really use the email, the web space or anything like that...
I do see where Danny is coming from, maybe a £5 per year "donation" where you dont get any guides, email, webspace etc etc and its just for people that like to use the site like me

you are allowed and im having my say. it is tight, less than a quid a month for a larger inbox (if thats all people would use) is still good in my eyes.
well done. you've gave your idea and ive given my response to your idea
