FAO 708 owners
hello
Im after some info on how/what people had there cams (708's) timed to when mapped. I have the standard lift @ TDC figure from catcams has anyone run their's on this spec and how did the car respond?
Also have been suggested to set the inlet cam to standard mark/pin and retard the exhaust cam a little and itll run well with good idle/power gains.
So basically what would you guys suggest for a driveable car, as i hear people have the cams 'swung' around to alter how the car feels.
will be running predator ecu also.
thanks

Speak to williamsvts, he had 708's and timed them up himself with a DTI countless times haha.

As Jp says, get them timed up as per Cats specs. The cams aint fitted to make the car idle , there to make it singgggggggggggggggggggggggggg. And once mapped up with the pred everything will be as norm.

not true, catcam say that it a guide to use there timing, but they say timing should be tweek on a dyno to get the max power out put!! as sometimes it can be different to there timing,
i was also told this by ken newman about the newman PH3!!!
but if you are running them up mapped then they can run on standard marks til you get it mapped and it can be fine tweek to get it correct.

So catcams spec is the best basis to work from then?
they will be getting mapped up with a predator ecu. and andy recommend
to time the intake cam to stock position, and slightly retard the exhaust cam until it gives a decent idle.
thanks

i had this problem with my 708s mate, set the inlet and exhaust to spec for cams, and when on tick over the car used to actually move they were that lumpy, so retarded the timing a little and it tickes over a little better, will all change when u have it mapped but for now will be ok, i'm also running a big valve head and other toys so, may be different to ure situation.

well with newman Ph3 which are basiclly the same, when un mapped ken newman told me to leave the exhaust cam standard and the inlet retards about 1 to 2 degrees, it seem to help me when up mapped!!

Of course your mapper should tweak them for optimum set up, but before its mapped set them to cat cam spec for the drive to the mappers!

depends on what you want, but when i had my newman in unmapped, i set the exhaust on standard marks, and the inlet retard about 1 to 2 degrees!!
gave me a good idle unmapped.
but can just set them to catcam specs, and ge it mapped to that aswell, to get it properly setup should do to a dyno, but Andys maps are very very good!!
just getting the cam timing spot on need a dyno!!
