Default vtr

been having problems with my vtr since i got it. lately the car been cutting out, due to battery not charging, so i changed the alternator and was still cutting out. so i thought it might be the cable that goes from alternator to battery, so i bought a battery wire from halfords and connected it from alternator straight to battery, since then been fine since wednesday. until today when it wouldn't start , just clicks when turn the key( has done this pretty much since ive had the car, but sometimes it does start staright away). so i got jump start from my mate, and the car just cuts out when in idle . if keep my foot on gas when in neutral its fine, but if take my foot off gas cuts out in about 3 secs. then after a while of turning the car back on after it had cut out several times, i turned the key and the battery just went completely flat. please help any one, as really need the car working as have a little boy and another on the way. thanks

.... aaaand breathe!

Follow the earth cables from your battery, undo the bolts and clean them up with sandpaper or something else rough. It does sound like something earth related.

On another note, how well serviced is the car? It's all up to spec and topped up with oil, coolants okay etc?
