Default Coilovers assembly mistake

Hello to the forum!

I've got a car with crappy ta technix coilovers installed. I'm going to upgrade this suspension, but wondering about leaving the spring and threaded sleeve. The problem is clunking and bottoming out widely commented here. Can anyone tell from the picture if the threaded collar is not tightened correctly (sitting too high)? I have suspicion that previous owner did something wrong. I can make better photos and some measurements later.

Also do someone have info about spring rate of this thing? I'm focusiong on bilstein motorsport grup n dampers and going back to standard spring. Eibach pro kit would be fast and common choice but I do a lot circuit racing and I'm afraid about pro kit beeing to soft for agressive cornering.

Looking forward for your response, greetings!

Scrap them fit standard struts with lowering springs? Less chance of death

I've just ordered oem struts to do so. I'm focused on getting bilstein group n dampers front and back. The problem is, my most trackdays are pure circuit racing and common lowering springs will be a bit too soft probably. My solution is to try use the threaded sleeve, make a new top spring pan and fit eibach ers spring and helper there. Around 200lb should be great all around setup for street/track/light offroad. I have to fit everything to get full insert travel without bottoming out any components.

I'll post you soon, greetings!

the clunking you're experiencing is probably the shock absorber moving within the housing.

The top nut which secures it, probably isn't holding it down tight enough.

You can get standard fit springs which are 200lb rating. not much point unless you're stiffening the rear torsion bars, otherwise you're just going to promote understeer.

The Group N stuff is pretty good. definitely give that a go.

The fronts fill be figured out soon. But how about rears? I have standard 18-19mm torsion bars. Will the group n's be ok with that, or i should go with the standard b8 ones?

Generally, if you go up a spring rate at the front, you want to go up spring rate at the rear.

I would just try it with the GpN first and go from there. every driver is different.

I have tendency to setup my suspension front hard and rear soft for more rear end traction. I'm afraid the most about rebound of the shock to be slow with 19mm torsion bars. Effect of packing up on the multiple bumbs is quite bad.

doesn't work like that with spring rates, you just create an understeery unwieldy mess.
