Anyone in Northamptonshire who can do timing belt and water pump? A friend of mine is meant to do it but I need it done sooner rather than later. Got a few quotes from garages and they want silly money, cheapest so far is £270!!! May as well bend over now!!!

If you have a basic tool kit you can do the belt yourself by the slice and replace method. The hardest bit is getting the plastics off.

£270 is not a bad quote..

A decent OE quality timing belt kit with water pump would be around £90-£120 (obviously there is cheaper out there but use at your own risk)

auto data quote 2.4 hours @ £40 - £60 (maybe more depending on the garage)

However as they are simple engines it is easy to do it yourself (there's a good sticky on here) just ensure you get the tension correct

Got a mate doing it for me now, I personally wouldn't try the belt myself not worth the hassle. Only costing me £180 now which isn't a bad saving.

Depends what belt and water pump kit is being used, no matter what car I would only ever use o.e parts or gates.

Ive had no problems using Valeo water pumps in the past.

Be prepared for the old pump to be rusted in place and need to get smashed out with a chisel lol
