Default 40gb ps3 worth it?

I want a ps3 (no get an eggbox answers), but dont know whether to get the 40gb model or wait till the 80gb comes out, if i wait for the 80gb itll have more features and be a better console, but i want gta on release date, so unsure what to do!!

any downsides to the 40gb model that means it would be worth waiting for an 80gb?, i was also thinking about an imported 80gb, whats the disadvantages of these? id want online play etc in games if i bought one of these, they dont play UK blue-ray do they?

could go into game/hmv on release date and see what package offers they do.

probably the best bet.

40gb are really no different as you will probobly never play a ps2 game on the ps3 anyway...and unless you plan to over load the ps3 with music and films then 40gb is more than enough to cover all your game saves and the few albums you;ll fire on to test it out...

Jacko, think he meant about the 80gb, and correct me if im wrong 80gb won't have ps2 back compatibility for obvious reasons.
Thats why they took 60gb models off the shelf in the first place. (losing money)
60gb were the best option of time, due to more ports, wireless and more space plus back compatibility, also that 20% of 40gb versions were faulty! at first arrival.

Ihaven't looked into 80gb models as of yet. You'l be able to buy expandable memory at a later stage i bet! so go with what u get, u have more than enough to start u off, you'l pocket money at same time rather than waiting and losing outon a few bob. you'l have the game u want same time as everyone else gets it when they rave about it on here. so you can join in!

I rekon they are making bigge consoles due to maybe adding recording facility to TV like sky + do but with the ps3 copy your m8' films and series! also help store stuff when on PS HOME.

Sorry maybe stupid question as i don't own one... but..
Does anyone know if the 40gb version ps3's have wireless built into them now? for internet etc! instead of running a ethernet cable...
thanks in advance!

Whats the difference between the 40gb and 80gb? If it's just space then you can install your own hard drive to make extra space, pretty simple thing to do as well.

EDIT: Just found this:

# What is the difference between the 80GB and 40GB configurations?

Both the 80GB and 40GB PS3 models come standard with Cell Broadband Engine™ (Cell/B.E.), Blu-ray Disc™ (BD) player, built-in HDD, 1080p high-definition output, Wi-Fi connectivity and SIXAXIS™ wireless controller.

In addition to the larger HDD capacity, the 80GB model focuses on offering the incredible graphic quality, stunning gameplay, improved audio and visual fidelity that PS3 games are known for by maintaining the PlayStation®2 backwards compatibility through software instead of hardware. The new 40GB model will also be packaged with the Spider-Man™3 movie on Blu-ray Disc. The 40GB model does not have PS2 backwards compatibility, although does maintain backwards compatibility for original PlayStation titles. The 40GB PS3 has 2 USB ports, where the 80GB PS3 has 4 USB ports. In addition, the 40GB PS3 does not have the multi-media memory card slots. Consumers can use a variety of after-market accessories for transferring their media to PS3 via the USB ports.

# Can I add more USB ports on the 40gb and 80gb models?

You can connect a high speed USB certified hub*.

* commercially available high speed USB certified hubs sold separately.

# How can you upgrade the PS3 hard drive?

PLAYSTATION®3 hard disk drive is removable and upgradeable. You can upgrade the drive by removing the hard drive and replacing it with a larger capacity drive.

# Can I still play my PlayStation®2 games, DVD movie, and CD music collection on PLAYSTATION®3?

Yes, you can play your DVD and CD collection, as well thousands of PlayStation® and PlayStation®2 software titles on your 80GB PS3. . Many PlayStation®2 format software titles operate, but full compatibility is not guaranteed. Updating the system software may improve compatibility. Visit www.us.playstation.com for system software updates.
The 40GB PS3, however, does not include PlayStation 2 compatibility.
